soaking it up

Sister and her husband delivered the box of Mom's stuff yesterday. The husband deposited the box right in side of my front gate. I did not go out to them. They drove off.
I sit here looking at the cardboard box. I just read one of Mom's journals. I walked right into what life was like when I was in my 40's. Mom lived in a low income apartment house. Mom never drove. Reading those entries I was there: names that have faces to me even now, sentences:' I walked around the lake.' That's Lake Padden and that walk is 2.6 miles long. Two elderly ladies walked that lake two or three times a week- Mom trying to get her weight down. My name came up often. That was Mom's last real hoorah before dementia began to snake in.
I need to take this Mom box and put it in the furtherst room in my house. I might go nuts otherwise.
Tonight hubby and I are going to eat at a downtown restaurant with three other people. We're going to celebrate our anniversary together. I bought some fortune cookies. I plan to bring them along just for fun. Hubby says he has a gift for me. He is very generous and sweet that way. I gave him my gift during our tea time yesterday: a rather drawn out poem.

Happy Anniversary Take your time and only go through the box a little at a time as you feel strong enough and in the right mood.

@sallypup She was motivated by wanting the space, perhaps. Memories can be huge and heavy, or they can really lift you up.

@Dreamerby No my Mom is not with us physically. She made it to the ripe age of 97.

@sallypup I am sorry. Depression can be tough for both the patient and the family members of the patient.
