In bengal prawns as fish are mixed with many vegetables. They are added with parval also called pointed gourd to create a dish called potol chingri. Chingri in bengali means prawns. Prawns if added with bottlegourd it is called lau chingri. These dishes can be eaten both with rice and chapatis.

Not sure that I have had this. Are prawns a major part of your diet?

I was not aware of the dish potol chingri. Seems tasty with rice than chapatis (atleast thats my opinion). I am guessing this is spicy although you did not mention. Guess the bittlegourd version - the lau chingri may not be spicy. Again , it is a guess as I am yet to see dishes where bottlegourd is added and dish is spicy as well. Prawns are majorly consumed by people who reside or was bought up in states which are to water bodies . I have observed the population coming from these regions love more sea food and aquatic lifeforms than others. This is again a general observation. Well, thanks for sharing the dishes and the ingredients. You have a nice evening

Indeed. Prawns can be part of any dish. It's like non-veg potato that everyone likes and can go with almost every meal. My wife loves dry prawns. In my city it's quite rare but I know Bengali people have sea food a lot because it's very cheap and available in abundance. I have heard you also make non-veg bhogs for Goddess Durga.
