I Like a Happy Doctor

Yes, I’m the same person who was whining about getting a Medicare card as a Christmas present yesterday. I had my six-month check-up with my “civilian” doctor today, and she was HAPPY.
I like a happy doctor. That means no tests, no extra pills, no “come back in two weeks for a follow-up,” and none of that.
It all balances out: for a while there I was averaging one doctor visit a week. It was PT, my back, my foot, my asthma, my ears, my GERD, and a partridge in a pear tree. It’s not that I don’t still have problems, but they’re thankfully under control right now. I had a pretty “bad” year with my asthma, but we’ve found the medicine combinations that help, so there were more puffs of inhalers but no ER visits (not for the breathing, anyway).
I made a joke about getting the Medicare card, but in truth I KNOW how blessed I am. Yes, I’m turning 65, but neither of my maternal uncles made that age. I take five pills a day (not counting my vitamins), which is less than some people have to take in the morning (then repeat two more times in the day). You saw my 100 favorite songs, so you question my mind (and I don’t blame you ), but my cognitive function is excellent. I can see with glasses. I can hear with hearing aids. I know where I’m at and why I’m there. I spend more time praying for friends and family than for myself.
I’m a happy patient to go with the happy doctor.
The only “downer” was my appointment was late, so Chuy’s was packed. I’m having lunch at Mark’s, but Chuy’s is on my mind, as you can tell by this picture of one of their new shirts.

I am glad your doctor's appoitment went well. I know that I shouldn't blow mine off, but they just love to piss me off.

Sometimes I wonder if they make things so inconvenient for the patients that they don’t want to keep their appointments. One of those dirty little secrets in healthcare is that those HMO plans pay doctors (or they did) a certain amount of money a month when they DON’T see their patients. I thankfully have a good relationship with my two primary care doctors (one at the VA and one civilian).

@FourWalls I used to have a good relationship with my doctor, then I moved. It's been hell ever since. Doctors either never tick around long enough to get to know me, stopped taking my insurance, or it's the game of the rotating doctor. They call me every few months to get me to come in for one thing or another. And getting bloodwork is frusterating especially now with George not feeling well. If I really do feel I have an issue, I'll put in the effort and see the doctor, but I'm not going to drag George or myself through it if I don't have to.

Glad you had a good checkup. I take 3 to 4 pills a day depending on my blood pressure. So I feel I am doing good too. I know people younger than me that need more.

My blood pressure isn’t a problem, thank God. It went down with my weight. I keep a close watch on it because both parents had high blood pressure.

I understand completely. Like Joni Mitchell sang in “Big Yellow Taxi,” “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.” That’s more true of your health than anything.

I really should make an appointment to see my doctor but I keep forgetting until after 5 pm when I assume the office is closed.

YOU: “No, not really.”

I’ll probably go to the one in Clarksville tomorrow, because it’s relatively close to the VA hospital (where my OT appointment for my hand will be). My “regular” Chuy’s is supposed to have a party with 35 people tomorrow at 11 AM (which is usually when I get there).
And you’re so right, happy medical reports are ALWAYS good. I pray all my family and friends have them!

You are truly blessed. What day is your birthday ? Maybe you can catch Chuy’s when it’s open soon.

They’re open, just overflowing. They have two huge parties tomorrow, so I’ll either do without again or go to the Clarksville one.

You take fewer pills than I do in my morning dose. (I take seven or eight pills in the morning, depending on what my BP reading is at 6 am.) I'm just glad I only have a morning dose and an evening dose... so far. My ailments are also "under control" with my current prescriptions.
I'm glad you're doing well enough.

I’m thankful you’re feeling a little better to show up here more often. I miss your evil daddy face.

Wish I could just get a new and improved back sometimes. Thanks.
