some time ago i saw a video about an app that helps you figure out how to use ingedients you have. i couldn't remember the name, but i googled and i got this - Supercook. i noticed that many myLotters don't like to waste food, so i thought that this app could be useful for all of us. have you heard of it before? i wanted to test it out and i just added fluor, potatoes, milk, eggs and butter, to see what happens - and it said that i can make over 2000 meals using only these ingredients i usually make same meals: potatoes in different ways, rice and pasta, cooked or air fried vegetables, chicken and beef with different sauces, breaded chicken, cevapi, pita, pizza, tortillas and breakfast meals like french toast, eggs and stuff like that. what meals are on your menu? give me ideas

I can tell you about several baked meals that we enjoy. You can use beef, pork or chicken for these. I prepare a baking dish by spraying the dish with Pam cooking spray or rubbing a pat of butter over the bottom and sides of the dish. I place a layer of whatever type of meat on the bottom of the baking dish and then slice a medium sized onion and spread it evenly over the meat. (I like onions in larger chunks, instead of diced.) I chop potatoes and spread them over the onions (I don't like to peel potatoes but do wash and remove anything that doesn't look good before chopping them up. Potato peel is good for you, anyway.) I then sprinkle salt, pepper, garlic powder and Ranch seasoning over everything. (Ranch is a type of salad dressing here but tastes great baked into other foods. Ranch can be purchased as a liquid or a powder here. I keep both in our kitchen.) I cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and then bake at 350F for 45 minutes. (If you use a tougher meat, increase the amount of time you bake your meal by about 15 minutes to help tenderize the meat.) _________________________________ I keep a variety of pasta to make up quick meals when I don't really feel like cooking. There is one brand here called Pasta Sides that take around 15 minutes to cook but I like to cook 1 lbs of ground beef in a large skillet on top of the stove and then drain the liquids from the meat when it's cooked through. I then follow the regular cooking instruction on the pasta. When it's done, you have a one-dish meal ready. With two packages of the pasta, it makes enough for three or four people. I hope these make sense to you and that you enjoy them as much as we do.

thank you for sharing. i didn't know that potato peel was good, i'm used to peeling it. and even if it's baked unpeeled, i peel it before i eat potato. i prefer to cook smaller portions because i like fresh food and right now i'm able to make different meals every day i make similar meal to the first one, but i put potatoes first and meat and veggies on top, or just put it everywhere on the plate. em]happy[/em] pasta is easiest thing there is, but i try not to make it too often. i guess i don't like to make things easier for me you didn't ask, but i'd like to share some recipes with you too: i don't know if you've heard of musaka, but that's another simple meal i grew up with. you just slice up potatoes and bake them. when they're done, you cover it with mixture of eggs, heavy cream and seasoning you like and put it back in the oven until it's done. you can also add grounded beef to it (like the one in picture) i love to make pasta with chicken pieces and alfredo sauce or parmesan sauce - you can either make them or buy them in the store. they're pretty good if you like cheese

@aureategloom You're welcome. And thank you for sharing a couple of your recipes. (I didn't think I needed to ask for some of yours... Most people know I'm always interested in new-to-me recipes. ) If you want, you could always look through my old discussions. I talked about things I made all the time when I was still posting discussions. (We need an emoji of a happy fat man here. )

@DaddyEvil i know that sometimes (often) i write too much and it might be unnecessary, but i want to actually put effort while interacting with people. i'll make sure to check some of your discussion later. do you know how to make pita?

I am sure there are many dishes you can make using the ingredients you added. I have a book (very old one) that lists ingredients and ingredients combinations and give you recipes you can do using those ingredients. When I bought the book personal computers did not even exist.

@aureategloom - I agree, I have many books and I am donating most of them. It's too easy now to use the computer to search. Nothing I know would use cucumber with potatoes, turkey and ham, skipping cucumber you can make casseroles with the other three ingredients, also gnocchi.

it's good to have books, but i feel like apps make this situation a bit easier - instead of searching for ingredients, you list the things you have and get new ideas i know i can make different sorts of pastries with added ingredients (that was just example). i'm talking about situations when you have a dumb combination like potato, turkey ham and cucumber. of course, you can make mashed potatoes, serve ham on the side and make cucumber salad. but i 'm wondering what else can you make with it

@LadyDuck that's so nice of you. i'm sure some people still prefer books over apps these are good ideas, but whattt iffff - someone made a recipe including cucumber just kidding, but i think you got the point from my previous comment. i just want to see what else is there

there are some other apps like this, but this one came up first. i found some sites that you don't really need an app for, but i guess i'm more used to apps than sites

@freelancermariagrace i hope you get the chance to do it. i feel like we can all try to make new things, but we're often "afraid" if we're going to mess it up and if we're going to like it

@aureategloom I buy pickles. They are yum. What would life be without pickles. Idlis are made from black lentils and boiled rice, more specifically boiled rice powder. We soak the lentil and grind in the evening. After that, mix it with the boiled rice powder.

I just figure out what I need for a month's worth of meals and buy for the whole month. Sometimes we run out of stuff like milk or bread and will go buy that. I make my version of hamburger helper, homemade chili and spaghetti with meat balls a couple of times a week. I make home made small pizza for my husband and me for a couple of lunches. We like having homemade macaroni and cheese I make apple or cherry turnovers a couple of times during the month. There are lots of pasta meals you can make. Plus I make homemade soups alot to.
