This is an unexpected (for all of us) Christmas treat for our great myLotter @JudyEv : songs with “Judy” in the title! Most of you know two or three songs about “Judy,” but I know a lot of them! (I had an aunt named Judy, so….) Here’s the first one, after which Judy will probably beg me to stop the countdown. #10: Sweet Sweet Judy - David Houston David Houston had a FABULOUS voice…what the heck happened? Seriously, he was wearing hearing aids later in life (and he was only 57 when he died of a brain aneurysm in 1993), and his singing became positively PAINFUL to listen to. Anytime they said he was going to be on the Grand Ole Opry I went out of my way to NOT listen to his segment. However… When he recorded this, that voice of his was absolutely splendid. The song (which he wrote) is one of those great juxtapositions with upbeat Mexican-flavored country music behind the story of a guy who sees his one-time love on a honeymoon with his best friend and decides to kill himself. This title fits our Judy, don’t you think! Sweet Sweet Judy Written by David Houston Recorded by David Houston From A Loser’s Cathedral, 1965 I saw the picture in Sunday’s paper:

David Houston is best remembered for “Almost Persuaded” (not the hymn). This was a top 20 song, though, in 1965.

His biggest hit was “Almost Persuaded” in 1966, which won a Grammy. It even made the pop top 20.

it's a nice song, definitely fits sweet myLotter Judy i'm sure you know this, but Beethoven also had trouble hearing and it began in his 20s. his Symphony No. 9 was composed when he was deaf.

Yes, but as far as we know, Beethoven wasn’t trying to sing on key. (Seriously, imagine writing something called “Ode to Joy” when you can’t hear it. )

He's a good looking guy. People need to pull out at the top of their game, don't they? It's sad when they don't. Thanks for the song. Definitely never heard it before and probably won't ever hear it again!

Yeah, he should have quit while he was ahead. Same with Charlie Louvin, who sounded like an old man gargling later in his life. In contrast, Grandpa Jones always sounded bad so who could tell if he’d gotten worse? Houston had an amazing voice in his youth, though. And yes, he was pretty good-looking then!
