A Christmas gift from my aunts

My mother and sister (and my dad when he was alive) cut off my mother's siblings several years ago. It is a long story that I won't bore you with but I did not. They definitely did something shady that had an adverse impact on my mother but I don't believe in cutting off family. They can do what they want but I am just not the kind of person who would do that. So I stay in touch with them and have had dinner with them several times over the years. It really could be every night if I wanted but as anyone who reads my posts regularly knows I tend to stay here most of the time. The doorbell rang a little while ago and I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my aunts standing there. She said "we didn't expect you to be home!" so I told her that it was a half-day at work. She gave me my Christmas gift, said hi to Charlie and Claire (of course Adso was hiding), gave me a hug, and then left because my other aunt was waiting in the car. The groceries were delivered immediately afterward so it took me several minutes before I could open up the gift bag. It contained a $50 ShopRite gift card and a handmade button pillow featuring a cardinal. It would be beautiful in any case but cardinals are thought of as a sign of a loved one who passed visiting you. They know how much I miss my dad who passed away just over a year ago. It was a really thoughtful gift and I absolutely love it. I almost don't want to put it out because I don't want it to get messed up by the cats or Whiskey but of course the whole point of having beautiful things is to enjoy them. What a wonderful present.
