and hoo boy it sure sounds like it is going to be a doozy. The former GOP representative resigned from Congress in an attempt to prevent the release of the report but that didn't work out so well for him. He wound up being nominated for Attorney General but then dropping out when it became clear to Trump that Gaetz had too many enemies to be confirmed. The House ethics committee secretly voted weeks ago to release the report despite the fact that it is very unusual to do so when a person is no longer in office.
A final draft of the report has been obtained by journalists and it states that the committee found "substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress."
Gaetz of course has denied all of this and he tried to get out in front of the news days ago by tweeting: "In my single days, I often sent funds to women I dated - even some I never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years. It’s embarrassing, though not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life. I live a different life now.” Yeah that's all well and good but the ethics committee investigated Gaetz's behavior while he was in Congress. They weren't looking at his behavior when he was back in high school or college.
He has repeatedly claimed that he is completely innocent and was "totally exonerated" when the Department of Justice declined to prosecute him for anything. That of course doesn't mean that he is innocent but there are stupid people out there who will believe his claims of innocence.
