Is This Happening in Your Area?

I read or hear nearly daily where another restaurant is closing down, bankruptcy, etc. I am also hearing where news casters are leaving news stations too. Right now our local city is widening one of the main drag. This means many businesses are having to make some changes to accommodate this big change. I'm wondering if this is happening in your areas as well. I wonder how this might hurt economies in some areas too.

Lots of changes out here too. Restaurants and shops - and not all necessarily mom and pops as big corp businesses are downsizing (or flat out going out of business). Traffic is a mess with all kinds of construction/repair they are doing to the streets - here is seems like lanes are shrinking due to those dangerous bike lanes and odd bus stops. Interesting about the news casters - I haven't seen that - I wonder what that's about. Maybe too much bad news .

My daughter wants to see Los Angeles but I parish the very thought of trying to get around. I think that a lot of news casters are retiring and the way news is relayed is changing.

@much2say ........I wonder how Uber charges. If you sit in traffic for ages are you charged for that?

@celticeagle I hope she gets to see L.A. someday . . . but yah, it's a bit sticky when having to deal with our "wonderful" traffic. True - the really good newscasters are of retiring age now - hate to see them go but they need to live their life now too.

@celticeagle Ours was never busy. But I could buy the same things cheaper at Walmart.

@wolfgirl569 ........I used to be able to find a few gifts for the kids at Big Lots. Never found much though so I won't miss them a lot.

Restaurants really are nothing new. I’ve read that it’s the single riskiest business venture out there. (It seems that every out-of-business restaurant we had after covid was turned into a seafood restaurant…never saw so many crabs on top of buildings in my life!)
We’re also losing a lot of news reporters because they’re getting older and retiring. James Spann, a TV meteorologist in Alabama, calls TV news “the Ron Burgundy days” and says that TV news model is going to evolve into something else, just based on the way people get their news anymore. I read that one TV station in Tulsa, Oklahoma actually shut down its Tulsa branch, so all of their news comes from their “sister station” in Oklahoma City (which is about 100 miles away). It’s an interesting contrast: on the one hand, there’s more local news on our stations than just about anything else (because it’s inexpensive to produce); however, on the other hand, lots of people get their national news from online sources.
We had a widening/remodeling of a main road in part of Louisville, and it resulted in a lot of businesses closing (technically relocating, not going out of business) because the turning lanes were removed and replaced with at-light U turns. That will probably happen where you are, too.

How funny. I dislike change so much it is hard to see the old icon places going down. I hope that our one old favorite, Merritt's, decides to relocate. It's been here for as long as I can remember. They make great scones.

Our small and medium enterprises have shut down! Restaurants are empty in normal days!

@celticeagle We have very limited seafood restaurants; and other than Red Lobster they are way too expensive; so I hope Red Lobster stays.
