Hello everyone. Merry Christmas! I hope your day is off to a good start. It is 35 degrees F and cloudy here at the Jersey Shore. Oh well at least it isn't snowing. I am heading out to my sister's house with my downstairs neighbor in about an hour. Frankly I am dreading it. I really have no interest in holidays with the family and it has been that way since my divorce. It is just too difficult to be at family gatherings and be the odd one out. I show up as expected but typically leave before dessert. Last year I didn't even make it to dinner. We shall see how long I make it today. My neighbor's son is spending the day with his father and family so I invited her to spend the time with us. At least having her there will mean I will have someone to talk to and who actually knows something about my life. I don't regularly speak to my mother or sister these days. They have their own little universe that I am not part of. That's what makes it easy for me to dip out early. . . I know they won't care. Well this has turned into a downer post. I made the custard for a batch of peppermint ice cream earlier. It is chilling in the fridge. It needs to chill for 8 hours before being churned. I am hoping to get that done tonight because then it needs at least 4 hours in the freezer before eating it. I don't even know why I got the idea to make that flavor into my head but there you go. I hope everyone has a great day whether you are celebrating Christmas or not. Tonight is the first night of Hannukah so enjoy if you celebrate that. I love me some latkes.
