Hurry!! Just 363 shopping days until Christmas! Seriously, I hope everyone had a great day yesterday. I did. Now I’m back at Chuy’s having a taco for lunch and ready to spring the first of three “obvious” “Judy” songs on you, as we celebrate our myLotters @JudyEv and @JStory07 . Hope everyone had this one on their bingo card.
#4: Judy’s Turn to Cry - Lesley Gore
Poor Lesley Gore, she did a lot of crying in 1963, didn’t she. “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to,” the prequel to this song, for instance. Then there’s this song’s B-side, “Just Let Me Cry.” Dang, she could have opened up her own water works company!
In “It’s My Party,” her man Johnny runs off with Judy, even giving her his high school ring. Now that two-timing floozy is back with her, leaving Judy high and dry. I’ll admit that I didn’t follow Lesley Gore’s career much beyond the hits, but I have to wonder who Johnny ended up with on the next album.
Nevertheless, that was a great one-two punch in the early 60s, and they still sound good today.
Judy’s Turn to Cry
Written by Beverly Ross and Edna Lewis
Recorded by Lesley Gore
From I’ll Cry If I Want To, 1963

I remember the name of Lesley Gore from her music and I think she was a guest star on the Batman television show in a villain role.

Oh, yes, I remember that, when she was one of Catwoman’s gang members. Think she sang “California Nights,” didn’t she?

I have heard this ONE several times Let's hope Judy EV doesn't spend too much time crying. I think not!

I don’t know why “It’s My Party” remained in the oldies rotation and this one dropped out. Oh, well, glad you enjoyed it.

I don’t know why this didn’t get dubbed a “classic” along with “It’s My Party.”

That’s the one! “Answer songs” were quite popular back then, so why shouldn’t Lesley do her OWN answer song?!

Eventually it didn’t get “oldies” airplay as much as “It’s My Party” did, so it may have been forgotten by some.
