Time to continue with some of my favorite tunes that praise the virtues of female relationships. When one takes the measure of a woman their beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or in this case the songwriter. Here are some songs which emphasize just how much the guy cares about their significant other. Let's see what you think of these 3 song selections. Will they be a thumb up or instead, be just like a jilted lover. I'll let your comments decide, lol. 1. BRANDY (YOU'RE A FINE GIRL)- LOOKING GLASS (1972) -This #1 song tells the story of a musician torn between his love for a life at sea and his love for a barmaid. Sadly, although Bandy was a pretty lass, the sea won out in the end. The tune was based on the lead singer's H.S. girlfriend whose name was Randy. *Do you remember this one-hit wonder band and their song? 2. AIN'T NO WOMAN- THE FOUR TOPS ((Like the One I've Got)- (1972) -Wow! 1972 was a very good year for songs about woman, girl's and ladies. This tune oozes "soulful love." *Fun fact: This was the biggest hit for The Four Tops after their departure from Motown. 3. LADY- STYX (1973) -This song was rejected by their record company for their 1st LP otherwise we would have had a "trifecta" of 1972 female love songs. It did make their 2nd album but didn't click with the DJ's until one in Chicago played the tune every night until it caught on. From there other DJ's followed suit making it the band's first top ten hit (#6). TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for today's music challenge for those who like to figure out who the artist, song or facts are from the clues provided... Words with quote marks provide some hints! 4. This song was used in the "1990 movie of the same name" starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere where she played a "call girl." People believed this singer was "going blind," when he started wearing his "trademark dark glasses" in 1963. This trend came about as a result of the artist misplacing his regular glasses. This mystery tune was the last big hit for this performer, reaching the #1 spot on the charts. The artist joined the group "The Traveling Wilburys" in the 80's along with music icons Bob Dylan and George Harrison. This artist had some other classic hits among them "Crying" and "Only the Lonely." *Can you name this artist and his woman titled song? Don't be a marked man/woman when solving this artist and song title. Thanks for reading and responding to my music post. Until the next one! Source- Wikipedia and songfacts.com

Your "woman's intuition" is correct. Yes, those female titled tunes are gems! Fun fact: Orbison's hair was never naturally black. He merely dyed it that color to fit into his "Man In Black" image. Roy's hair was actually dark brown.

@dgobucks226 I like anything Roy sings. My husband saw him live in Perth once at the very start of his career. He was the support band for Bob Dylan. Imagine seeing both those on the one stage!

But of course. It took a "pretty woman's" touch to get the song and answer right. Fun fact: In 1964, Roy Orbison was the only American artist to have a #1 UK hit, and he did it twice - with "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and "It's Over."

Oh, pretty Roy!! Wait, he’s not a woman…Julia Roberts wouldn’t play him. I actually saw that on cable…not all that bad a romcom, as far as romcoms go. I’d much rather listen to Roy sing “Oh, Pretty Woman.” And I refuse to acknowledge that awful Van Halen cover of the song! PS: Looking Glass really, truly, honestly DID have another top 40 hit: “Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne,” which peaked at #33 in 1973.

Yes, I did like the flick "Pretty Woman" and your correct response. How about George Costanza with "hair" making a play for Julia, lol. The tune has a similar instrumental feel to "Brandy," although the lyrical hook is lacking. I'll give it 1 1/2 stars out of 4. Fun fact: The four members of Looking Glass are alumni of Rutgers University about a 1-hour drive from my home. Oh, did David Lee have a fondness for covering other artists songs. Another fun fact: In 1964, Roy Orbison was the only American artist to have a #1 UK hit, and he did it twice - with "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and "It's Over." Not bad for a Yank!
