Could personal improvement be just as effective without New Year resolutions?

Another year ending and another one is coming up. Well, for some it has been a fantastic year, for some an average year and for some a very bad year. With every New year, people make resolutions. Some resolutions are new and specific to the particular year and some resolutions are repeated year after year. Most times, people tie personal improvement plans to New year resolutions. Except 1 or two, I met in my life, most people fail miserably with New year resolution within first 2 months. Worse, they then do a complete 180 degree and feel bad about the new year resolution or completely forget about their new year resolution. While New Year can provide a fresh start, keeping some of the personal goals with unrealistic expectations often lead to failure. Perhaps breaking down into smaller actionable steps could be more effective than one mega resolution. Plus, I feel we should be more focussed on bringing better habits than New year resolutions! This may help most to track progress and have better mindset to reach the goal in a changing environment. I feel we should view personal improvement as a sustainable journey and not as a single yearly promise. What’s your take?

i think you can succeed and make changea even without NY resolutions. you can set and plan out your thoughts and goals on any day, when yoi're ready to make a change. however, i guess a lot of people feel the need to promise something to themselves, something they're going to achieve that year. and from my experience, i actually achieved the most when i set my goals at the beginning of the year. but then again - i achieved a lot even when i didn't set any goals. again - do what feels right to you

Well, that is a great way to explain on how we should achieve our goals. Regardles whether it is New Year or not , do what is right and go with it. Thanks for sharing that wonderful point!

Fail to Plan is Plan to fail. So I don't think you will have a clear improvement if you are not so sure on what to improve, or without having a goal. So I think it is better to plan the routines.

Exactly -New Year should not be tied up with personal improvement. Personal improvement can have a start anytime. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with what you say. I don't usually bother with resolutions now as I always forget what they were.

Well, that is true. Instead small targets monitored as monthly goal would do better. Thanks for sharing!
