Friend is crazy

So, his refrigerator broke and needed to be replaced. He bought one on Amazon, but didn't even buy the affordable insurance plan. I told him he should really reconsider that. They will deliver, but by ordering it there he didn't get the take away service for the old fridge??. I said "well, how are you going to get the old fridge out of there, he says well use a dolly." WHo exactly does he think is going to remove it? Everybody he knows is old, and besides that he will probably have to pay someone 200 bucks to do it. He also bought a seperate freezer,(he doesn't cook that much, why not just use a fridge freezer? He had to pay a plumber to disconnect the old fridge. He thinks he is saving money, but will probably end up paying more, and I know him he will probably have that old fridge sitting in the way for years..or it will end up being somebody else's problem. Half of the things he does just make no sense.

I know it’s hard to see him have a lack of good judgment. He sounds hardheaded.

It is, he always thinks he knows best, and most of the time he is incorrect.

Oh gosh yeah it sounds like won’t be saving money in the end sr all. That’s what I love about lowes and Home Depot when they will haul the old ones away. They can be hard to dispose of are so heavy.

That was a very well thought out purchase. If he can find a scraper who is desperate for scrap, maybe they would come and do the haul away, but that is highly unlikely. And he will not recoup the cost for the plumber.

@snowy22315 Or......depending on the age a used appliance dealer may be interested in it for parts.

He's always making decisions that are illogical. He's done it as long as I've known him.

@snowy22315 - When I bought large appliances I always paid for the full service, to bring the new, get rid of the old one and have the new one installed and tested.

I never would have thought to buy a fridge on Amazon. Is Amazon even bringing it into the house or just a drop-off like all their other packages? Certainly does sound like it's going to be a complicated problem and doubtful that he is saving any money. I'm curious now, though, to see how all this plays out. Hope you'll keep us posted

No, they will deliver and hook it up. I think they use sub contractors for that. Hopefully, they are not on strike.

I hate to be hard on guys, but that sounds so like a man. Just convinced they know best, and unwilling to listen to anyone else’s advice.

He just wants to do what he wants to do. I am sure he didn't even ask anybody what would be best. Oh well, its his issue..until he passes away and passes the problem to somebody else.

Eek. Some guys think they know what they're doing . . . but well, some of us know what exactly will happen . Yah, he's making it to be more work than it has to be and sounds like it will end up costing him more in the end.

I didn't buy insurance on the refrigerator. I can't remember who I bought mine from. But that refrigerator was short and small in capacity. I only used it for a short awhile though before I move here. I may have to buy a new one again for here.

I had to buy a new fridge but that came with the disposal of the old one. I do not want to burden others with getting rid of items that can prove useless to others. I tend to think I will have time left to do that myself later. Hopefully, I am not mistaken!

I always sign up to have the old appliance taken away. Otherwise you will live with that piece of metal for years. Have a safe New Year's Eve.
