I enjoy researching and finding interesting facts about a given holiday or other interesting subject matter. I have compiled what I found to be interesting facts about our upcoming New Year's time. Happy New Year to you all.
* New Year's celebration can be traced back to ancient Babylon.
* In Spain, people eat 12 grapes in the first 12 seconds of the new year. Each grape representing a month and this symbolizes good luck and prosperity.
* The Time Square ball drop tradition began in 1907. The current ball is 12 feet in diameter, weighs 11,875 pounds, and, has 2,688 Waterford Crystals.
* According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau there are more cars stolen on New Years Day than any other holiday.
* People in Japan eat a warm bowl of Toshikoshi soba(buckwheat) noodles at this time which symbolize a break from the old year and bringing in the new one. This tradition dates back to the Edo period(1603 to 1867).
Picture is from my collection.

We eat a pork roast and sauerkraut meal on New Year's Day. It's supposed to be good luck. Didn't really work this year. Have a good New Year's Eve.

@celticeagle My husband's 2nd cousin found a pork roast in my freezer. She was going to make it today; but the weather report is just too bad. Maybe tomorrow or Friday.

@celticeagle The ball drop is a long tradition. Now they have made it pay only so the enjoyment is not there anymore.

Probably because the robbers know that many people will be snoozing and not paying attention to their cars.

There's a. lot of traditions and rituals being practiced here in my country and mostly influenced by Chinese. Like there should be 12 kinds of round fruits on the table. Part of my ritual is hang grapes on the windows and doors
