Friday is coming

I just realized today that my break is almost over. We go back for one day of school on Friday, I guess to ease us in. I did not really get a lot done for break, but having both Bob and I get sick probably was enough. I am beginning to feel decent. So of course it is time to go back to work. Half the year is over already.

That just makes no sense to me although I understand what you are saying about easing you/them in. But teachers need the full weeks, for goodness sake.

Oh, we are all shaking our heads about this. I guess they could have had us go back Thursday. When we start in the fall we usually start with a Thursday and Friday.

The holiday break is so short. I wish we can have more days and return on Monday instead.

Sickness always seems to break into the fun. Back to it then.

Seems silly to go back to school on Friday and then have two days off, but fine. I guess it works.

I know, many of us thought so. Maybe I could do a "snow dance" and get a snow day out of it.

@GardenGerty I would be surprised if FSDB tried to pull that. They likely wouldn't waste the money and recorceses to bus the kids back for a day only to have to turn around and send them back. It's a boarding school.

@GardenGerty It will. Florida will see lower-than usual temps, but parts of it will only be midly effected.

It does seem rather silly to go back for one day before the weekend. They have to heat the building, etc. for one day...fix food, etc. then nothing for two days. I tend to think on the side of economy as well as what would make sense, going back for one day doesn't make sense to me. The schools here are all out until next Monday, so I really didn't think about anyone going back this week.

Supposedly this is so we can get out earlier in May, but why? Oh, and the building was a bit chilly in spots anyway because some of it is central heat and air, some of it is boilers. We have different wings built in different decades.

@MarieCoyle We started after Labor Day, I believe, and went until the end of May.

@GardenGerty when I was a kid, the first day of school was after Labor Day, and the last day was early June. Now the schools start earlier and end later.

Ouch, that has to hurt, to go back for one day.

There are many ways I feel it is not cost effective, but we have to get back to it, so we get out in the middle of May.

@GardenGerty — if the goal is to ensure a mid-May end of year, then it would seem to me that they’d be in session on January 2 as well. You never can tell about the weather, and TWO extra days to rely on would be better than just one!

It is good to hear that you are on the mend again. I did not get any downtime over the holidays, only the 25th, 26th and tomorrow will be paid days off for me. It has been busy, and I don't see an end to that for January. Happy New Year, enjoy your last few days of relaxation and time off from work.

I think we needed the reset. Of course our maintenance and custodial staff will have worked some of the days. They will be trying to sanitize everything and kill off that nasty bug everyone got.

@GardenGerty Yes, they will enjoy having the space to clean things quickly and efficiently. We have friends that used to both work as janitors in the schools. She was at the high school in the village and he was at the grade school. They used to talk about how nice it was when the students were on a break, they could clean and wax floors and have everything shiny and clean for when classes resumed. Happy New Year Heather.

I'm glad you'll feel better before you do start back to work. And yeah, it was a miserable way to spend your time off work.

@just4him I thought it always did here as well, but that would have been too quick after New Year's celebration.
