A decade ago...

December 31, 2024 7:42am CST
Kind of sad, I used to be able to write things 'off-the-cuff' fairly easy, these days I labor for hours over each sentence and simply can't seem to get anywhere... THE LAST WORD As I finish the page I lay down the pen But the story is not yet At an end...merely intermission 'Til the next day dawns And a new chapter awaits To be written... Strange is the story of life; The ink in which it is written Is the blood flowing through my veins But does my soul write the story Or is it already written? Am I only a bit player Stuttering over the lines... And when my time has come And these tired fingers can no longer Put the words to the page... Who shall write the final verse? © 12/31/2014 Michael Joseph Ratcliffe

I'm sorry you are finding it harder to write these days. That is a very good poem.

@BarBaraPrz That's OK. I haven't written any poems in years myself.

I will lay down my pen, Know it was all good, Take my loved one's hand, as my soul is freed and walk into eternity, Wishing you and Scar, Emoci, and Pete a shiny New 2025 Year!

I think you will come back for that last line.

That's pretty deep. And for me, I think I take more time to process words and savor the meanings . . . more than I did a decade ago . . . what exactly will that last word be . . .

That was excellent. I find my creative juices have dried up over the past year with everything that's going on with me and my husband. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!!!

I look back at things I wrote in 2010, as that seems to have been a good year for me writing wise. I am not sure I have anything left to say these days.

Yes, who? But what does it matter, anyway?

It’s strange the way we change like that. Curious: do you actually use a pen and paper, or do you type it out on the computer?

Wow JJ, that is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. It is the way that I feel on some days, days that I have the time to stop and actually think. But personally, I feel like my final verse will be lived in an easier dimension with loved ones surrounding me that I haven't seen in years, and I will be young and happy and carefree. Maybe our souls will meet after we exit stage left.
