Dad had a few...seriously...
What is the purpose of those saucers...except to take a break during drinking the hot beverage, and prevent it from getting cold...
At the best to use it like a coaster held in hand.
Some inventions or creations that never made sense to me..
The best use ...Dad's gardener who doubled as my caretaker would share his tea in a saucer with me...when I was around six or so....
I now use those saucers as lids..LOL
Too ashamed to keep them even in show case. LOL
So.......... are there any inventions that got you thinking why it was ever designed or invented..

I use those saucers... as plates instead of using the full-sized plates. *shrug* My "plate" looks and is full with a lot less food on it and I'm satisfied with the amount I eat. They're also easier to hold/wash in hot, soapy water. I have dropped and broken full-sized plates and, honestly, fell while carrying a full-sized plate and shattered it all over the kitchen floor. Pretty had to help me clean up the broken glass. I couldn't see the glass shards. (Our plates and saucers are clear glass.) I've started using plastic bowls, just in case.

The saucer will catch any spillage from the cup and gives you a place to put your wet spoon. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!!!

I use a teacup and saucer when I feel like reading tea leaves. After drinking the tea, the cup is placed upside down in the saucer and turned three times before being read. Haven't done it in a long time. Maybe I'll do it tonight, to see what the new year brings.

saucers aren't really needed. I think back in the 1800s they were used to place the spoon on or even to hold the cruppets and biscuits served.

I associate it with the Brits actually. LOL. Kinda, you expect them to be sitting in their yard enjoying morning sun, all with their bonnets, and full length dresses.....yeah...kinda..that era stuff. LOL
What do you think is the purpose of these things...

We don't always use saucers, but I have found they can help to keep the table clean. If there is spillage or some drink dribbles off the side, the saucer can catch the liquid before hitting the table or tablecloth. Like DE, we often use them as plates too.

I sometimes do. Seems to help keep me from easily knocking a drink over.

The only time I used cups with saucers was when there were guests or a dinner party. Now I no longer have any saucers just mugs I use,
