New Years Eve listening to fireworks

I do not like fireworks. Unfortunately, my across the street neighbor down one house does. A lot. So, I was listening and heard what was obviously the start of a firework... except it sounded really weird. Yes, it started with the normal 'pop' sound. But then it went weird. So, I had to look it up. Of course I did... And I found it! Apparently it is called 'Howling Wolves!' It was strange. Better than the mortars. The kicker is, it is still 2 hours shy of New Years!

I live in Texas. I don't know how much you know about Texas, but it isn't just dry prairies or deserts. In July I worry about how dry it is, because we've been having a drought. However, it was very damp over the weekend so at least that fear is gone. I don't want to complain, but I do worry about the amount of dry grasses in the summer.

You will probably hear fireworks for two more hours.

Either my neighbors did not do any fireworks this year, or I slept through them. I am usually asleep by midnight, when they usually set a few off. The mortars have woken me up in the past and scared me.

I don't mind them. I know people will do them at certain times of the year. It is what it is. I'd rather watch them though than just hear pops and explosions. Happy New Year.

I was twice witness to a fireworks failure. Nobody was really hurt either time - one had a minor burn on the leg and the other was the guy who was coordinating the display. He was transported to the hospital and ended up losing some hearing.

@ElicBxn It is what it is. Accidents happen no matter what it is people are doing. They fall off ladders. They crash cars. They trip over things on sidewalks. Lose fingers at work. Stub toes on corners. Not sure what that has to do with people doing fireworks.

@porwest Both of these 'accidents' were with the huge, city displays. Both put on by, supposed, firework pros. I know the first one was because it included fireworks from the year before that was cancelled by rain. Never heard a reason for the second. Oh, and these were held in different cities, different states, so... take that what you will.

Our fireworks was done in a public place sponsored by the local government and lasted only for some minutes and that already costs around 2k dollars. My neighbor who is vacationing from the US also displayed fireworks in our neighborhood but only lasted some 5 minutes. Good thing about it is it was just a display of lights on air and not noisy.

Oh, these guys are noisy! I didn't go out to look, but I'm sure they were pretty, I just don't like loud bangs. There was a brief pause and I put the dog out. But I was on the toilet when they started again and that got the dog started again.
