They started this a couple of months ago. We wear college sweatshirts on the first Thursday of each month in order to promote the idea of college and get the students talking about it. I didn't have one after all of these years but I was happy to buy a new one. Apparently my alma mater is becoming popular these days.
College isn't for everyone of course. Early on in my career in the days of No Child Left Behind there was a push to get every high school student into college. I thought it was cruel because they were pushing students who clearly wouldn't be able to make it to go to college. Vocational and trade schools are being promoted more these days which I 100% support. We need people doing those jobs and frankly they make more money than college-educated people a lot of the time. My ex earns more than I do!
Still I do like the idea of the college sweatshirt day. It gets kids thinking and talking about colleges and if it is or is not right for them. I've told them about still owing $$ on my student loans and I talk up community colleges. I also like being able to roll up to work looking like a bum in my hoodie and sneakers. J/K I will wear a hoodie, jeans, and sneakers to work any day that I want.
I wish our buddy @DianneN was around. Her husband taught there around the time I was a student. She would get a kick out of it.

I'm glad that they did. Or do. It's better than shoving college down people's throats. I've had family and friends go to college and either not get jobs, or wind up switching jobs and having to go back to school.

@NJChicaa I am not saying it's not for some people. It really is. But, I know two people at least who became teachers and the career didn't last very long. And they SRILL had t pay off student loans. I chose not to go to college, because there's nothing I'd really want to do that would make the stress frm school worth it.

@kaylachan Being a teacher is really difficult. I almost quit after 5 years. Now I'm stuck. I'm good at my job but it is easy for randos to bash teachers as if they have a clue about what it entails.

You are right college is not for everyone since my former high school teacher told me that going to college is like getting into boot camp. Only the strong survive.

It sounds like fun. I’m with you on trade schools and junior colleges needing to be promoted more in schools. The jobs you can get with those can be high paying for sure, and even if they aren’t, they are honest jobs that can provide a stable life for a person.
My brother-in-law went to college (not a major one), but didn’t graduate. My sister has a Masters. He makes so much more money than she would if she still taught (she is a stay at home mom now and homeschools her 3 kids).

That's a good program at your school. I agree that college isn't for everyone and trades can be just as profitable and satisfying. Have a good day.
