Did I really chart out an Afghani pop song because of an art work?

Her younger brother, Daniel, was supposed to be my piano student. Daniel is about five. But his ADHD had him bouncing all around the room. I noticed that his older sister, Elina, was watching intently. Their father tried to contain Danial in a language I did not understand. This was a few months ago. To cut to the chase, Elina wound up as my piano student. Maybe Daniel will be some day. Elina is about eleven. She is the one who reminds me of my high school buddy's (his name was Abhijit) mom, Helen. Elina has an intensity about her, and a quiet wisdom about her. At first I thought she "didn't like me," but she was/is a quick learner. She already has Carol of the Bells and much of Fur Elise under her belt. After three months. During our last lesson, a week ago, she asked me if I could teach her an Afghani movie song. Neither of us had cell phones. She played a few notes on the piano. I could not make sense of it. I took down what information I could, and did some Google research. I don't even know if the song I "vetted" is the one she was referring to. But I hope it is. Today, I charted some of the chords in the song and uploaded the video to my cell phone, so we can listen to it together. If it's the right song, I can show her many of the chords. How was an art work relevant? About a month ago, she brought me a picture she had drawn. I asked her if I could put it on my refrigerator, and she said yes. I may have mentioned this in a previous post. Kids don't bring you artwork if they do not feel a bond with you. I really want this child to fall in love with piano. Wish me luck today. I hope I listened to the right song. I don't care for it that much. (Heh.) But I think she'll be delighted if she can learn it. Here it is.

You really invest yourself in your students. I kind of like the song. I would know more if I knew what it really is about.

@TheHorse What is wrong if I like corny love songs...I am not a prude like you. I am not sure Heather would like us creating a world war III in her box...

It worked perfectly! She had learned her little riff in A-minor. But the version I heard was in B minor. I showed her the chords in B-minor, so she could play along with the version I heard. But then we transposed it all into A-minor, so she could play along with the version that she had heard. I could tell she was pretty happy about it all.

@DaddyEvil The only issue for me is that she might need a "better" piano teacher within a year or two.

She seemed pretty pleased. I think this young girl has a pretty advanced musical mind, and I am surprised she has not played piano before.

@LindaOHio It will be "growth" for me me if I can teach her some Hindi classical music.

Aw...what a cute art work.....why do you have to be at the other side of the pond...sigh... I told you sing in other languages, you will get more attention...then you can showcase your original music...which is fantastic...just that somebody is gonna plagiarize it, and there will be nothing you can do...sigh. The song reminded me of an old Hindi song

I will listen when I get back from Guitar Center. I did listen to some Hindi sacred music last night. I want to teach my student how to improvise that kind of music. My sense is that she is interested in both "Eastern" and Western musics.
