How I spent New Years Eve 2024 and New Years Day 2025

New years eve and New Year’s Day we’re just another day for us this year. I stayed in warm fuzzy pj pants both days. My husband is sick but went hunting for a few hours both days. He has a light cough, started out with a headache, stuffy nose, and his body hurts all his joints ache. I was limping around towards the end of the night I said we would be getting a weather change because of the pain in my right leg. Right after that it started pouring. Today it’s been a mix of rain and snow all day. My stepson asked me to pick up his girlfriend after work so she could spend the night. It would be their last night they’d be able to. I said with my husband being sick she shouldn’t but to just have her stay in his room as much as possible away from him. My little girl and I were around her while eating though. My stepson ordered uber to bring a huge $50 meal from Wendy’s then all his girlfriend ate was 4 chicken nuggets. He pays for all this then the leftovers never get eaten and it winds up getting thrown out. Today my stepson came out and asked if I would drive his girlfriend to the ER that her throat was closing off. We thought she was having an allergic reaction and she almost had to be life flighted out but after blood work etc she wound up having mono, strep and the flu. So on top of whatever my husband has which seems to me like Covid we are at risk of catching what the girlfriend had as well. Thankfully we weren’t around her much but my stepson was and will definitely come down with it. He leaves to go back to the Marines Friday night so hopefully he doesn’t come down with it by then so he won’t spread it to us if we haven’t already caught it from her.

Well you might luck out. Though I think something might be going around. My throat feels a little off today. But then again I'm not waving red flags here over it. I hope you feel better though.

@kaylachan my stepson leaves on a plane tomorrow night at 7pm. My husband will have to drive him an hour and a half to the airport but otherwise we have seen him much since his girlfriend is sick he’s been with her. She had to be taken back to the ER last night her throat was closing off again.

@kaylachan they sent her home after so she has to be okay. It’s too bad they didn’t keep her overnight to begin with on iv antibiotics. She wouldn’t have had to rush back to the er with her throat closing off. I think they were likely understaffed on New Year’s Day and just didn’t want to keep her in. I haven’t heard any updates today on her.

@arunima25 he wasn’t feeling well by then either so that’s why he wasn’t responding. I’m hoping he won’t get to sick since he is back at the marine base now. I’ve come down with something and feel pretty terrible. Could be worse though at least I’m not flat out in bed.

@arunima25 I haven’t heard any updates on her today. I asked my stepson to give me updates but he hasn’t. Maybe they are resting after being up at the ER overnight I’m not sure.

I’m going to strangle the men in your family. Everything they do, and they do it without listening to you, comes back to bite everyone.

@AmbiePam that does always seem to be the way unfortunately. Can be quite frustrating.

I hope none of you get sick and hope your hubby only has the flu and not Covid. If nobody eats the food your stepson orders, why does he order it?

@Daddyevil with asthma I’m worried the flu would be worse for me then Covid. I forgot to get a flu shot this year. He thinks they will eat a lot more than they do. Eyes bigger than their stomachs. She said she hadn’t eaten since Sunday so he thought she would be starving but then she barely ate. Probably wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to tell me because she wouldn’t have been allowed to stay.

@DaddyEvil I’ve had Covid twice and while it was exhausting and I felt terrible I definitely had been sicker. I was vaccinated though so I think that’s why I didn’t get hit as hard. Many many years ago when I got the flu I was much sicker then when I had Covid.

@shaggin Oh, I see... I only have mild asthma but have several other physical problems so I worry more about the effects of Covid than I do about catching flu. Of course, I don't want to be sick at all so do everything I can not to catch anything at all. Pretty and I still wear masks when we go out of the house and we try to avoid crowds. (I still caught the flu before Thanksgiving and was sick for two weeks. Pretty caught a nasty cold about the same time. We're lucky we didn't pass those to each other.) I would have been angry with her for not telling me she was sick before she came over. She should have been more worried about giving something to you/your family than whether she could stay or not. Young people aren't smart like they wish.

@wolfgirl569 it’s very likely what my stepson has. He wasn’t around her for a few days then she spent the night woke up with her throat closing off and got diagnosed with the flu, strep and mono. Now he woke up today sick with fever.

@wolfgirl569 my stepsons girlfriend told me my stepson isn’t keeping me updated because he isn’t feeling good and is running a fever now too. I see the incubation period for the flu is 1-2 days yikes that was much faster then I expected.

@allknowing thank you. My stepson isn’t feeling well and is running a fever. My throat feels scratchy but hopefully it’s just from the salsa I had at dinner. I’m remaining hopeful.

Oh gosh I hope you don't catch that! A bit of a cough is pretty standard for this time of year but you can do without the rest of it!

@Fleura my husband had a light cold a few weeks ago and my son got it last week. These symptom my husband has now with whatever he has is definitely more then a cold. I guess once I catch it and if I need treatment we will find out what it is. Hopefully it’s just a virus that will pass. I won’t go to the hospital unless i absolutely have to. Strep throat would require that possibly even the flu :(

@LindaOhio I saw the incubation period for the flu is 1-2 days. My stepson is now running a fever and not feeling well. My husband had to drive his son to the airport tomorrow so since my husband will be exposed then I expect he will come down with the fly by Monday at the latest. Maybe we all will just get very lucky and not catch it. I don’t think I got a flu shot but I just can’t recall and the doctors office wouldn’t answer the phone today so I couldn’t ask.

@shaggin I'm so sorry. I got a flu shot at my last PCP appointment. I need to get an RSV shot too. I hope no one else gets sick in your family.
