Getting old is tough

My mother said the other day that I'm not old but at 47 I definitely feel old. . . at least physically. I have various issues--sleep apnea, hypertension, the ongoing gastrointestinal saga, etc. Well add a new one to the list--hip pain. I've been feeling clicking and soreness for several months. My BIL asked me on Christmas if I was having hip problems because he noticed my limp. I just smiled, nodded, and rubbed it. I had a great night of sleep last night. I slept straight through, used my CPAP, etc. I woke up without feeling zombified which is unusual these days. Then I went to get out of bed and almost fell on my face. The dull constant ache in my hip had turned into a very sharp immediate pain as soon as I tried to walk. I have no idea what cased the sudden escalation. I didn't fall or have some crazy workout accident or anything. So I called out of work, popped 3 ibuprofen, and got back into bed under the electric blanket. 2 hours later I woke up feeling about 50% better. It still hurts a lot and I am walking like a Weeble Wobble but I am hoping another couple days of rest and ibuprofen will improve the situation. I really don't want to have to get involved with cortisone shots and all of that other stuff with an orthopedic doctor.

Sorry for this new hip problem, not the best way to start the year and 47 is NOT old, believe me! Happy New Year to you.

Getting old is not for sissies just like @FourWalls said.. You might have to go see an ortho doctor. You might need a hip replacement. The hip surgery is better than the knee surgery. I hope you feel better. Have a good weekend.

My ex had a hip replacement at 42 and did amazingly well with it. I don't like the idea of having someone saw my femur though.

@NJChicaa You'll be amazed how much better you'll feel though. And hips are much less painful than knees when it comes to surgery.

I’m 43, and a little afraid of how I’ll feel at 53. I hope the next three days make you feel much better.

I turned 40 and thought, “Bah, this is nothing.” Turned 41 and fell apart. Hang in there, kiddo, don’t be an “over-40 victim of fate”!

I hope this is a simple fix. You're not really old enough to be 'old' yet. I have some ear thing going on and I'm just about totally deaf at the moment. I have drops to put in 3 times a day and for a while after that I'm battling to hear anything.

I am eating fine. My hip still hurts but not nearly as much as it did on Friday.

I hope you can relieve that hip pain and don't have to deal with seeing an orthopedic doctor. But, I wouldn't ignore it if it continues to bother you.
