Me on Meat

I could never be a vegan. I don't like vegetables that much and they seem to have some other rather odd (to me ) beliefs and things they will eat. In the area where I live the quality of fruit has lowered considerably and so I don't even get much fresh fruit. What there is that is any good is expensive. I do eat some beef in the way of a hamburger now and then. I love roasts but they are so expensive. My grandmother used to pay about $3 for a roast that fed us well. That was back in the 60s. Now they are nearly 10xs that amount. I like turkey and chicken with the latter being very versatile. But my favorite is pork loin. I cook a pork roast with some lavender and herbs that is so tasty. A nice pork steak cooked until it is nearly crispy is so tasty to me. And, then we have fish. I love salmon, trout, shrimp, crab and lobster. Can't hand oysters and some others. I could eat fish every few days for a long time without getting tired of them. But I don't have the money to eat fish very often. What i do eat alot of is beans, mushrooms and eggs. They are cheap, filling and nutrition. I am not into pastas or rice. Potatoes, brocolli and cheese come next. Very tasty additions. Adding herbs and garlic to these adds alot of flavor. Your thoughts.

I try hard to have a variety of foods. We really enjoy vegetables and fix them a lot of different ways. No, we don't eat much red meat at all. A lot of chicken, and turkey. Some fish dishes. We absolutely love homemade soups, so we do eat a lot of those. Chili, potato soup, clam chowder, vegetable beef...we have a lot of different kinds that we enjoy.

We had canned black beans for protein tonight. I am glad I froze fruit from this summer. It's coming in handy now. I worry about the upcoming kids when it comes to nutrition.

Yes, I do the same. I had all kinds of fruit growing up and loved it. Nowadays you can't get decent fruit and so kids don't even know how good they all are.

I couldn't be one. They won't eat certain things and are just too finicky for me. I love food and can't take many things off my list.

Eggs are so high right now we are doing without them. We eat a lot of fish and chicken. You can eat pork in so many different ways and the same with beef. Eat small portions of meat and eat more fruits and vegetables.

Eating beans and eggs is very nutritious. I could easily eat vegan a couple of days a week. I love beans and could eat them just about every day. And melted cheese? Yes! Have a good weekend..

There is a lot of other options besides vegetables if you wanted to not eat meat. I will never understand picky eaters. Being vegan isn't just eating veggies, there are many many options.

I am not vegan, but I am close. I think of myself as a vegetarian. I have never liked meat much, preferring vegetables from childhood. I grew up near a wonderful farming community and vegetables were plentiful. I gave up meat about 30 years ago and never looked back. Fish was harder for me. But I didn't want to kill animals to eat and we overfish and there are lots of pollutants in fish now--we make choices about all of this--it sounds like you have made yours

At first I thought you were going to say you lived on nothing but meat, but in fact that sounds like quite a healthy diet overall. I have never cooked mat with lavender, that sounds interesting!

The pork roast really turned out well with the lavender on it. You don't need much.
