No More Chaos

Whether that was on the minds of dissenting Republicans when they reelected Mike Johnson to the role of Speaker of the House or not, it's what ensued. No chaos. Johnson was returned to the role of Speaker on the 1st vote with no hiccups or ongoing fights. Trump was clear that the party needs unity. There's a lot of work to get done, and rather than focus on internal needs, it's more important to focus on the needs of the American people, and we can't do that if we are fighting with each other. Granted, I myself have some issues with Johnson. At the same time, we are not a cult. We have opposing views and we voice them, unlike the left who mostly toe the party line regardless of the outcome. We don't have to agree 100% of the time. Sometimes it's best to make some compromise in order to have better chances for better outcomes. That includes sometimes working with and across the aisle. If we have a government that operates under the premise of, "My way or the highway," we can never hope to achieve what we want to. Our Congress needs to be a House of Conversation and Appeal, not one of dissent, bickering, infighting and folded arms and pouty faces when things don't go 100% our way. That goes for both sides. We've had 8 years of stagnancy in Congress. The American people spoke loud and clear on election day what they want and who they want to lead it. It's time to get to work for US. I applaud the reelection of Speaker Mike Johnson.

@porwest I don't disagree but I don't see that happening with the GOP having control of Congress and the White House. Trump won't want or allow compromise and the House majority is so slim that the Democrats will have more power than you'd think. It will be sane conservative Republicans vs MAGA cult members.

@NJChicaa That is patently false. As I have pointed out MANY times, MANY of Trump's policies are ACTUALLY Democrat policies. Such as, securing the border. That was LONG a Democrat position supported by Clinton, Schumer, Pelosi, Hillary, and even Obama. The Republicans were accused of wanting open borders for cheap labor. Trump did nothing more than adopt a Democrat position and made it his, and as soon as he did, Democrats changed their position. Such as, protectionism. This is a DEMOCRAT position. Trump's America First labor policies are DEMOCRAT policies. Republicans are generally free trade and globalist supporters. But Trump wants to make it harder for foreign companies to take away American jobs—a long held Democrat position. Such as, protecting social security and Medicare. Also, a DEMOCRAT position. Trump has long scolded Republicans for wanting to make changes to social security and Medicare saying, "We have an obligation to honor our promise to the American people." Such as, not policing other nations and staying out of wars. A DEMOCRAT position. Trump does not like war and opposes MOST wars. He vehemently opposed the Iraq war, he opposed our military presence in Germany and Japan, and opposed using our military to police other nations for reasons other than American interests. I could go on. There are MANY examples. I point them out because not only would Trump work across the aisle. He ALREADY HAS by adopting policies of the Democrat party under his own leadership. The ONLY reason the Democrats oppose these things now is because Trump does.

So many questions...Where did you dig up that cartoon? The soul female reporter is wearing a hat (but no gloves?) And what does that sign say? (Can't make it out.) And who is that dude in the chair? And is that brown guy under the left spotlight really a dog?

@BarBaraPrz What do you mean? It's not what I say. It's what I did. I went into AI and said, "draw me a picture of X," and that's what it spit out. There's nothing to dispute. lol

Lucky? Umm. No. If the Democrats REALLY wanted Harris to win, she'd have gotten that extra 6 million votes Biden got to clinch the win. Which also begs the question, where exactly did those 6 million votes go? I continue to ask, 81 million votes. How? Trump's support has only grown. It has never wavered. He got 63 million votes in 2016. 74 million votes in 2020. And he got 77 million votes in 2024. In three elections he increased his support by 22%. What happened, considering the Democrats won nothing, AND Trump won with the popular vote as well, was a clear mandate FOR the Trump agenda and a complete rejection of the Biden/Harris agendas AND presidency.

lol. That would NEVER happen in Congress. I admit, it would be entertaining. But it might be something like rap, than singing, and bad things would be happening in the lyrics.

I am not sure it WILL happen, but I do know it HAS to happen. I have mentioned more than a few times that Democrats need to heed the wishes of the American people or risk losing more and more elections. The fact that they lost everything should be a clear signal to them THEIR agenda was NOT the agenda the American people asked for to be pursued, so their only thought process should be to pursue the agenda the American people DID ask for—they can change their minds if they win. But until then, they are best served by doing the work they have been asked to do rather than the work they would prefer to do.

I'm not the biggest fan of Johnson either, but I was happy to see that everyone came together and got him reelected on the first try. It's a good start at least. I don't expect everyone to sing Kumbaya and hold hands and agree on every vote together, but it at least shows that there can be some unity in the party.
