Sometimes You Get a Wild Idea

Okay. So, it's really not that wild. I have been involved with several businesses in the past. Nothing I will disclose. But there's a car wash not far from my house that gets what we call 32k ADT. It's a manual car wash with two automatic brushless bays as well as four manual bays. It's for sale.
Depending on a variety of factors, a car wash like this can run anywhere from $200,000 on up to a half a million, to even a million. This particular one SHOULD be in the range of $125k to $175k by my estimation. But of course, that depends on operating costs and revenues as well as what the current margin it is receiving right now happens to be.
I have been considering buying it, if I can get more information about it, which I may do, but I am simply trying to get some preliminary information about it which has proved difficult.
It was listed with Barber-Murphy, but is also listed through Strano, but I can't find anything at all about it.
If I really become interested, of course I will make some contacts. But like I said, usually I prefer to have some information before I do that.
These are generally very profitable. Have you ever considered owning a car wash like this? Would you?
By the way, in case you may have been wondering, ADT simply stands for "average daily traffic." That's just the average number of cars traveling along a roadway next to a business on a daily basis. It gives you an idea of potential customers.
What I like about a car wash is that it's generally turnkey, low maintenance, low cost, and always in demand.

what would you change about it if you DID buy it?
like new working staff if you have any at all?
I don't have a urge to own any kind of business
I'm retired & like it that way & want more of it.

@porwest I would think that goes with any
type of business to increase customers right ?

@2ndchances24 Absolutely. Just because it's turnkey doesn't mean there aren't things one SHOULD do to not just hang a sign that says, "Under new management," but to also make it mean something.

We've seen many super car wash companies recently. Good luck on future decisions...keep us posted.

We thought about owning a car wash at one point. Would never do it now of course. Good luck and have a good day.

Buy one down here, then you have a reason to visit often.

@porwest I counted the car washes whn we went to lunch today. I counted 5 in Crestview alone, so maybe don't put one there. There are 3 at least in Defuniak. lol

@thislittlepennyearns I'd never build one from the ground up. Just buy one already there that's for sale. Turnkey is much easier AND cheaper, and requires less marketing.

My father-in-law and I were in talks of buying a large carwash in south Florida about 10 years ago, that was very profitable. However, once we did all the research, the owners were asking way too much for the business. Yes, we would have been able to make our money back due to the profitability of the business (like you said, they are VERY profitable), but the timeframe to realize a return on our investment was more than we were comfortable with.
But if you can get the answers you are looking for in your research, and the numbers look good, you might have yourself a very worthy investment.
