I assume that there are members from all over the world, but I'm wondering what is the condition of public schools in the U.S. I attended elementary school from kindergarten to the 5th grade and was homeschooled until I started college. Since for the most part I'm an outsider... what is the real condition of public schools?

I am an art teacher, and my experiences are only in small towns, which meant that I was the only art teacher in the whole school K-12. I think that overall the schools are still OK. The City schools are worse, only because of overcrowding. There is no money to build more buildings and pay more teacher's salaries.
Those who teach are not doing it for the money, by the way. It is sad what teachers make. It is hard to fill many positions because it doesnt pay.
I think another problem is that many parents are not raising their children anymore. They expect the schools to do it, but when the schools do discipline, they get sued. I think parents need to be more involved and teach their children respect, honesty, work ethic, and the meaning of hard work.
