Weighted Blankets

I recently learned that a friend online had gotten a weighted blanket and it has that person very much. I have been curious about them for some time and so I found this a good time to do some research. Weighted blankets help the body during sleep by pushing the body down and can create a deeply calming effect. They stimulate a deep pressure touch and can reduce both chronic stress and anxiety. They also promote melatonin production. They should avoid being used by those with conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, respiratory or circulation issues, low blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, epilepsy, claustrophobia, restless leg syndrome, skin problems, compromised posture, or poor circulation. If one is older than three and has none of the listed conditions you can use the blanket on a nightly basis. Deep pressure massage however can provide much of the same benefits. Researchers note that the use of the weighted blanket can help people get to sleep more easily, wake less frequently during the night, and even feel an increased sense of calm during the day. The blanket should be about 10% of your body weight and no more than 35 pounds. You may want to get a cover for the blanket since washing them in a home washer can be a problem. These blankets come in different sizes, colors, and materials. They range in price between about $100 to $200 in price.

I wonder about them. Would he be able to get up and down easily with one on top of him?

@celticeagle I think so. You don't really need them to weigh a lot

I can understand the principle of the blanket. I get help just by having a regular blanket on. I have a tremendous problem falling asleep; and having a blanket on helps. I imagine a weighted blanket would be even better. Have a great day.

I sweat hard I’d worry it would get through the cover. I would love one though. I need a certain amount of blankets on me for the weight and tucked against my back if I’m on my side. If things aren’t just right I cannot sleep. With asthma and circulation issues doesnt sound like a weighted blanket would be good for me. I do get restless less in certain conditions as well.

I was given a weighted blanket for Christmas maybe five years ago, and I've used it ever since.
