The other day friend called and asked if I wanted to go to lunch today. I never say no to lunch out.
She was in a mood today. We had a pleasant sit down in one of the local restaurants then snooped in a thrift store. A sweater and a small Bavarian bowl hopped into my cart.
The real treat for me was that friend had an itch to explore. I mentioned that another person had told me about a local trail but I wasn't sure where she meant. Friend drove in the general direction and before long we found a trail sign. It took some doing but about a mile later we found where the trail started. Five white birds- looked like swans- lined up in a row in a waterway near by. Gorgeous. Earlier I'd spotted a deer in a field. I'm itching for another rain free day so that I can take Rufus and Moxe and see if I can walk a block or so of the trail. There is a lovely wooden bridge at the start of it. Intrigued me. Wish I could walk more of it- it goes for miles and miles, along fields and woods and rivers.
I hadn't realized how I needed to be out and about, looking at cloud formations and green fields. Now I have a goal and a promise to myself to set my feet onto that trail sooner than later.

That's a good thing.Yeah. We all need to get out sometimes. I know the VA wants to be helpful by offering phone visits, which is fine, but.... George needs opportunities to walk and use his legs. Not just around our house.

@sallypup I know I am. I do see where they're coming from, he isn't moving as quickly as he should, he seems to struggle. I get it. But, when we aren't going to the doctor, or the store, we're home and he's not moving much. Without Chilly we aren't going to stores as often. Once every few months to get laundry detergent. And he'll usually get his nails done, too. Take away the doctor's appoitments, and it's just the trips to Aldi. And the less trips out the more depressed he's going to get and the weaker he'll become.

@kaylachan I wish there was a group he could go to-like Poker card games or some other fun activity. I used to help a guy who had had a stroke- one of the things we did was to play Scrabble. My husband has a braille Scrabble game. Any sort of activity would be great for both of you. Since my husband was sick two years ago he isn't moving well, either. Shuffling when he walks. I try to have patience.
