Mace is the red cover on the nutmeg. We have a nutmeg tree and the nutmegs get ready and drop only during rains There is a ,thick yellow outer cover that opens and the nutmeg with the red cover falls on the ground We separate the red cover (mace) and when dry keep them in the fridge Unfortunately mildew forms on it no matter how careful we are. We sold the nutmegs but could not find a buyer for the mace. Mace is very expensive.

Is this the stuff police use to spray in peoples faces to disarm them? Or is it the spice mace? Or are both the same ? I’m so tired and confused now.

We can buy dried mace; I never knew it was red when fresh!
