The “Now or never “Subscription model tactic to force impulsive purchase

India

Recently I had subscribed to a free trial of an online economic magazine. It did give interesting insights and well it was good to read. Around Christmas time, the free subscription expired and the renewal price seems to be a little hefty. So, I decided to wait for some time. However, from Christmas day till today I am daily bombarded with “Now or never” offer from the magazine. It is same price but then with the psychological marketing strategy of stating it is for limited time such as 24 hours and so on. They present the words as if I was going to miss out the next big thing. The pressure tactic in words was interesting as it was looking for an impulsive commitment and impulsive buying. Have you ever seen or fallen for the such “Now or never” subscription model tactics?

I see that kind of thing all the time. Including among politicians when they are in "begging" mode.

I never thought of politicians earlier with respect to the topics. Come think of it- it seems to be true atleast for some of them. Thanks for sharing!

I have been flooded with similar offers. And at two places- Email and WhatsApp. It is an online subscription of a big Business Newspaper. The difference is that I had a paid subscription for some time but now I did not renew it due to a lack of time and some price increase. Anyways it is a customer's choice. I can understand their pressures but well so much bombardment is not good.

Yes, I've seen that tactic and usually block the emails from a company that stoops to tactics like that.

@RevivedWarrior WhatsApp does marketing? I've never seen that but I only use it to talk with two friends in India. Other than private messaging, I didn't know WhatsApp could do anything else. You're very welcome.

@DaddyEvil Here we get WhatsApp notifications from Companies and mrketing agencies and they would bombard you at times with messages. While some Organizations use them carefully , others use it for mass broadcasting .

Yes, that would be a good way to block these companies from mails. I need to do the same with WhatsApp marketing as well. Thanks for sharing!

The marketing people are very clever with their tactics, aren't they? Some give you it free for a month but written in the fine print is a commitment to pay monthly from then on.

Very true- after a trail , they would like to charge us a hefty price , which is not something we would have to entertain. Thanks for sharing!

No, I have never given in to those lame pressure offers. For some reason, they have the opposite effect on me. I start resenting the people and companies behind the offers, and tend to interact less with their business as a result.

Wiser people definitely do the exact behaviour. They resent as the offer has all components of exploitations. Thanks for sharing!

Hahahaha it always got me before, but now I am more wiser, but with spotify and netflix, the price is really good for months.

Well, experience is always good to help us spot such exploitations. Thanks for sharing!

That should be the approach when we want something. It should not be forced on to us. Thanks for sharing!
