I was thinking..........

Today was a snow day for the children. When they woke up they were told by their parents that the buses and schools were closed. It was a snow day. That meant that they could play, sleep in, go outside or get the homework done that they did not finish the night before. And I was thinking, what would you do if you woke up and heard that your workplace was closed for a snowday? I think that I would relax over a leisurely second cup of coffee and curl up with my book. What would you find yourself doing? ~Photo is mine

Just chilling, like I did Monday and stayed in my jammies all day. It was fun.

In my younger days I would have gone back to sleep, but now once I am up I am up for the day. Our snow finally stopped falling. We had a very light dusting last night, but it is calm and not snowing this morning. It needs to stay that way because I have a hair appointment at 3 this afternoon and she lives across town at least a 30 minute drive on dry pavement. Fingers crossed the snow doesn't start back up again.

I would freak out, snow is not a common problem here if we even get winter. Today it's cold with the overnight getting below freezing but by Saturday our days will be around 10c once again. Nights will be freezing cold for a while though, that's the nature of deserts.

As long as the days here are above 10c I'm ok with freezing nights when I'm under warm covers.

Yes, I know that dessert areas can have extreme cold because there isn't the vegetation that we have to hold in the heat. We are below freezing day and night time these days. But it is alright, this is Canada and this is January.

@rebelann I always kick the blankets off of me, but my hubby is always wanting more. Tonight I folded a quilt in half lengthwise and put it on his side so that he can feel as comfortable sleeping as I do.

At the last job I had, there was a day I couldn’t come in due to the snow and ice. Everyone else lived pretty close, but I was 45 minutes away. I fixed my mom (I was living with my parents) a cup of hot chocolate, and she sat and watched a morning sports show with me. It was such a nice morning. Then I made home made chicken soup for our lunch. I remember I was dismayed because I had to use a little bit of store bought broth for the soup, and I didn’t like it as much as the other I had made. Of course, she said it was delicious. Did the girls get to go outside and build a tiny snowman? Or was it just too cold. Of course, you were busy, so you might not know. I always ask you so many questions!

That sounds like such a great day you spent with your Mom. Days like that are rare, but provide us with such unique and precious memories. Ron couldn't even make it to our son's place today to watch the girls. The city didn't have the road crew out clearing the snow and he was driving 13 km before he saw 1 too many vehicle spin out and he turned around, and returned home. He worked on his black, grey and white jigsaw puzzle today, he enjoyed doing that. I had a feeling that his eyes might start to bother him since there is such little colour in that puzzle so I asked him about lasagna, and he loves to make it, and made one this afternoon between working on his puzzle. I am waiting for our son to facetime us with the girls. Willow was really sad that Grandpa wasn't coming over today and that playgroup was cancelled. He misses them terribly. These 2 little dolls won't lie down in the snow to make snow angels in their snowsuits or will they kneel down to start a snowball for a snowman. They will throw it around, mostly at Grandpa so far this winter. He doesn't turn his back on them in the snow or they will throw snow at him or up in the air so it lands on his head. They giggle when they do that.

@Juliaacv .......That's so nice that they do that for their employees. Some folks are lucky to get to work from home. Depends on the job.

My daughter-in-law works for the federal government, they like to complain about alot of things, but paid time off when your daycare provider cannot watch your children is amazing. She is lucky. Since I work from home I wouldn't get any time off for the weather. Even if the power were out, I would need to go into the office to work.

Well, these days I would just get online and do some writing through the Internet. In my younger days I would pick up a book and read all day,

@Juliaacv have Harper and Willow learned the art of building a snowman?

@RasmaSandra Yes and no. They are little divas when it comes to being out in the snow. They don't want to kneel down in their snowsuits to roll the balls, which is how you have to start a snowman. They will help you, by watching and throwing the snow around but they won't make a snowman on their own. They won't even lie on their back in the snow to make angels, and when they go over to their sandbox and cannot move the sand because it is frozen, they are less happy.

I would likely either be watching reruns of television shows on the streaming services or playing video game on the Nintendo Wii system for exercise.

I was online a lot, and cleaned some and organized some. Two snow days from the school. Third snow day due to our driveway and that stressed me out.

My workplace is wherever I have a laptop and internet connection. But, when I worked for Pizza hut, it didn't really affect me. I worked the night shift. So, I guess just spend more time doing the things I want to do.

I remember how much i loved those rare snow days when school was closed and the later years when my k8ds enjoyed a snow day. Your idea of a snowday off from work is my idea of enjoying an unexpected day off.

I never really liked snow days as a kid. We were bused about 10 miles into a city school. There were not alot of students bused in. My Dad, being a farmer, after he fed the cattle in the morning would pile my 3 brothers and I into the pick up truck and drive us all into school so that we wouldn't get behind in our school work. At the end of the day Dad's truck would be visible from the playground for us to go and pile back into the truck. 5 people in a pick up truck, with lunchpails and books and obviously not enough seatbelts, but that wasn't a concern in the 70's.

We do not have snow here. Sometimes we get a day off due to typhoon. I usually stay home, read a book, browse the net or play musical instruments.
