One of the best things I learned in school was how to make puff pastry. Her name was Margaret the cooking teacher. She also taught us sewing. This was in St. Edmunds in Oxford, England. Such happy days and useful things I am glad I learned. What is the best thing you learned do you think? I know so many to choose from.

We learnt to make puff pastry too - and to sew. They were useful skills - more useful than geometry!

I am not sure they teach home economics anymore. My brother did cooking and he was rather good at it

Puff pastry - that is impressive! I remember home ec in 7th grade. We had different teachers for cooking and sewing. I learned how to use yeast - and made my first lasagna. In sewing I learned to use a sewing machine and I enjoyed the apron project.

It is highly noble of you @RebeccasFarm to thank and appreciate your former school teacher. Not many of us find the time to do so. I am elated that you learned something useful from this great tutor.

That would be interesting. There are many to thank. In school, I am thankful to lot of my teachers to get interested in reading. I am also indebted to my Physics and Mathematics teachers for making interested in Mathematics and Science ( I did end up doing graduation in Computer Science and Engineering). I am also grateful to some of my teachers for teaching me ethics and character values . I was not a good student when it came to crafts or cooking and I still remain so. Glad to know about Miss Margaret and her cooking class. If I do visit US again , will visit you for a cup fo tea and puff pastry. Have a great weekend ahead!

Most of my teachers were nasty pieces of work, vindictive, and loved punitiveness, and bullying, of the students. One crazed teacher hit me with the yardstick, and he told me to hold my arms straight out, then he hit the arm with the long stick, which hit me from the fingers all the way up to the shoulder, and then satisfied, he moved to the other arm, six welts on each arm. And I had done nothing wrong, except during lunchtime, I had walked across the driveway in the school which was apparently out of bounds, as school teachers were such bad drivers they might just hit you on it. I was retrieving a wayward ball, hit by a batsman, at cricket. These days, the guy would be charged with assault, but in those days, free rein pretty much was the rule. You were indeed lucky to get a teacher with a good attitude, and a caring nature, for her students.

How to be a good manager. No one showed me, however, I had one that showed me how I never want to be.
