1/10/25 - Update On My Husband

Spoke with a nurse yesterday when I was trying to get a hold of my husband. She said he was acting mean so they are giving him a test for a UTI. The meanness could be the same as what happened when he had hospital delirium early in 2024. In 2024 he started to try to get out of bed, got out of bed 3 times, fell 3 times and broke his hip. I need to give them a heads-up on this behavior. Yesterday they ended up sending him to see a movie. He never called me which isn't surprising. Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Based on the conditions of the place and the service, he might just be rightfully perturbed. What some people see as mean is nothing more than the right reaction to the right situation. Of course, I have no idea. But I can relate to being "mean" when it is necessary and others perceiving something as mean when it is nothing more than the right response.

No, he gets mean when he's confused. I just hope he doesn't start trying to get out of bed again.

He could have a UTI as they are common with a catheter

They do all such things when in delirium. Good that you gave them a heads-up. They will be better prepared. Keeping you both in prayers and thoughts. Take care

Perhaps that would be a good time to point out if he had regular showers he would be less likely to get UTI's What"s the story in that? So sorry about this

That's what happened to my MIL - they still watch her for those UTIs. In her case, they said she was seriously dehydrated - and she is the type who will forget to drink water. Severe dehydration can cause UTI and then the infection can cause the confusion - including being combative.

Are you doing well? It seems you're neglecting yourself in all this.

I’m glad they’re at least getting him out of the bed. The place my aunt was at never got her up for the last eight months of her life.

This is concerning, I hope he does not try to get up and then he fells.

When I had a lot of contact with a dementia wing, they were always testing for UTIs if a patient's behaviour deteriorated.

In the past when I worked in nursing homes and with the adult disabled almost any change in behavior triggered a test for a UTI. With him having a foley in though he will always test positive. A catheter is a direct route to allow an infection to develop, even though they serve a necessary purpose.
