Can public healthcare/hospitals be more effective than private ones?

In most countries private hospitals is often the better option compared to public health care. There is shorter wait time, personalized treatment, better facilities and better access to top specialists. By all means, that all translates to higher quality care. Hence, we prefer private hospitals compared to public ones. I have viewed public healthcare as overcrowded and with limited resources. Some of the public healthcare systems are underfunded and that is red flag when it comes to quality care. A recent interaction during a public hospital visit changed some of that perspective I had . Public healthcare is available to all irrespective of their financial background. They are most effective in driving vaccination and disease control initiatives compared to private ones. During the pandemic, most public healthcare was able to support due to their infrastructure and government funding. Plus, public healthcare is not looking to make profits and hence avoid unnecessary procedures and extra costs. For minor ailments and treatments, most public hospitals are as good as private ones.
