Should I Do DoorDash?

I don't know. I am retired, but I can still make money. So, I have had a few ideas, one that comes to mind is DoorDash. It seems easy enough and you can make a fair amount of money. Is it worth it? Has anyone here done DoorDash? Any tips? Ideas? Thoughts? I am curious. It seems easy enough to me. I don't need a lot of money. Just want to make something. I like the idea of it being on my terms and flexible. What say you? Have you tried it? What's your experience? Opinions? Worth it or not?

Well, if you do the math, you'll need to think about taxes, wear and tear on the car, and things like that. Secondly, do you live in a highly populated area? If not you might not get many orders to make it worth it? And what cut do they take and how money do you actually make? Have you done the research and math?

@porwest Well, sounds like you have a decent chance at getting sales. But, I'd do the math against the time you want to put in, before going forward. Especially since wear and tear is on you. And, while I don't know the numbers, Door Dash does take a cut of that earnings. You should be able to figure out how much.

@kaylachan I guess if I gave it a go for a little while, just to see, there wouldn't be any real harm in that.

Where I live there are around 70,000 people, but when I count all the surrounding areas, it's massive. So, there would be plenty of opportunity for sure. But all the things you mentioned are definitely genuine considerations. I have done any research or math other than what I am currently familiar with about it.

I don't think it would be profitable for you if you are driving that big truck, unless it gets really wonderful gas milage? Maybe you could swap vehicles with your wife if her car is smaller, and try and see if you think it's worth it. Some people make it work and make money.

I never gave much thought to the truck part, but you are right. Most of the people I see doing this are using hybrids or compact cars. I only get 17 miles to the gallon. Hmm. My wife drives a Nissan Rogue, but every time I drive it, I feel like I am on the ground. lol

@porwest The plus side of doing Door Dash or Uber deliveries is that you can basically do them when you want to. If you wake up in the morning and decide you don't want to work, you don't have to work. Maybe you can do Instacart, you seem to like grocery shopping. We have a lot of people here that do that.

There is someone my wife knows who does Amazon Flex and makes pretty good on that. Just thoughts running around in my head. Who knows if I will actually do any of this. lol

I guess the biggest question for me is whether or not it is worth it based on money, wear and tear, and gas costs etcetera. I will have to do some research.

I haven't done it. My neighbor does Instacart and Sparks (or something like that for Walmart). I just do my coverages and online tutoring.

For me, it's the stock market. But I am still always interested in anything that can add to the pile.

I agree with LooeyVille. I had the same opinions. The car wash IS a better idea. Have a good week.

Less work and way more passive as well. Does require a large investment, though, as opposed to something like DoorDash which requires none. lol

Doordash? Even if the idea was Uber or carpooling that works to an extent. Car maintainence and fuel expenses vs the earnings from Doordash cannot help long term. Besides the car could smell of food , even if properly packed. In case you are interested in making money, I would say work on your strengths. Since you are good at analysing things, business consulting freelance or finance stock broker analyst could be something you could try. Freelance with flexibility. If nothing, uber can help although to get ROI , could take sometime. I have not tried any of these expect for freelancing as business analyst. It is a nice side gig. Take care!
