In India today is sankranti. In many parts of the country the first cultivated produce like rice is offered to God. It is the last day of month of poush. In bengal there is a fair called ganga sagar mela, it is held at the point where river Ganges meets the Bay of Bengal. The winter produce like jaggery called gur is used to make kheer or payesh and pathi sapta made up of coconut powder. In the north India there is kumbh mela where pilgrims bathe in the Ganges in cities like Haridwar and Prayagraj.
