A box of home-made goodies

For several weeks before Christmas, Little One kept asking me what I would like as a gift, and of course I’ve got to that stage of life where I don’t really need any small things, except a good supply of hand cream and I guess she didn’t want to get that as she got me some last year. She loves sweets and chocolate but although I like the odd one I’m not crazy about them, especially sweets, something she just can’t understand! But I happened to mention that I would appreciate some little treats that I wouldn’t normally get myself. I’m fond of dried fruits and nuts. So she took that on board and came up with the idea of making some special treats for all of us. She carefully worked out how long different things would be good, so that she didn’t do the more perishable things too soon, and set to work making different things in the week leading up to Christmas. Obviously it wasn’t possible to keep everything secret in our own kitchen, so each one of us knew about one or two things she was making, but nevertheless when she presented each of us with a variety box of treats it was still a surprise! She made chocolate brownies, peanut butter cookies, Oreo truffles, chocolate-dipped strawberries, white chocolate-coated raspberries and candied nuts. They were all delicious! I was really touched that she had gone to so much trouble (although of course she may have had the ulterior motive that she didn’t have to spend much money since most of the ingredients came out of our household supplies!) Anyway I really enjoyed them and I was very impressed with her efforts. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

@Fleura That's a good age to start being independent and thinking creatively.

How lovely of her to do that. Thoughtful homemade gifts are the best.

That such a thoughtful gift and even though you weren't totally surprised I would be touched by her efforts.

Even with the ulterior motive, that was a lot of effort for Little One to go to. She obviously planned and executed it all really well.

What a sweetheart, she poured her little heart and soul into the gift. What more could any parent ask for? You will long remember this Christmas gift.
