how sealed up is the cabin?

Hey there folks how are you all doing with this frigid cold weather ?
I hope every 1 is staying warm & not getting out in this mess, it's
WAY too cold to be DOING anything outdoors, it'll be over soon.
I know I can't be out in it very long with the way my immune system
is, so what little bit it takes to feed the dogs is all I do & I bundle up
really good so I don't get cold & I'm being careful not to fall as well.
We still have a good amount of snow on the ground yet, I had to make
a walking trail from the cabin to the dog pens & from the dog pens
to the trailer & get somewhat of a clearing for the car to move
for when the time comes to hopefully get out in a few days.
So, with all that said, we're doing alright, we haven't froze just yet
we haven't lost power thank god, so all in all we're hanging in there
& the answer to how sealed up is the cabin? it's VERY sealed up.
I have 2 small heaters going, 1 in the kitchen & 1 here by my comp
desk to keep my feet warm & that's it, the big 1 I have, it comes on
very seldom, cause the other 2 are doing the job at keeping it warm
It stays around 70 through out the day & night it stays nice that even
the "snow on the roof" doesn't even melt cause we sealed it up that
good, we put heavy thick plastic cover in between the insulation &
the wood slats we put on the ceiling incase it DID decide to leak.
To tell you JUST how good this place is sealed, it's a lot cheaper
power wise than the trailer is by like 200$ in the winter like it is now
with as cold as it is & it's down in the single digits at 5 degrees.
Remember the mice problem I had in here? that too has been
taken care of, with putting metal flashing on the bottom of the
walls between the old walls & the new walls & the floor (in a L shape)
they haven't found a way back in & with 2 sonic mice sonars in here
it keeps them outta here, along with anything else that comes in
flies any bugs, so I think it's sealed up like a fort in san Quinton lol.
It may have cost a lot to get as far as we have to get it done but
after living in here like I was B-4 I got sick to where it is now, it's
been WELL worth every penny we have spent on getting it here.
We still have to wrap the outside of it & that will REALLY seal it up
so yeah this is my little cabin in the woods to make it my 4-ever
lifetime home I've always wanted & NOW I have it thank you Lord.

YES IT IS , after all the years I lived in it without
being sealed off, I wish we could have done it
sooner but I didn't have the $ it took to do it till
I got sick & it built up while I was in the hosp.
So I'd have to say God had a plan & I wasn't
suppose to know till I Woke up from what I went
through in the hosp, it's been a blessing.

@2ndchances24 I’m glad you were finally able to get it done. I can imagine how cold and drafty it had to be in the winter. I live in a very old house without insulation and old windows and before the windows were replaced in most windows it was so drafty and cold the furnace ran almost constantly in the winter.
What caused you to have to be in the hospital and how long ago was that?

Oh my, I'm thrilled it doesn't take much to
heat this place up & KEEP IT right where I
want it to be, & it takes NO time to cool it.

It's good to hear that the cabin is staying warm and that you found a solution to the mice problem. It's been worth all the time and effort you've put into it.

I can't take all the credit, I had God's help & my
better 1/2 hubby that did all the work

@2ndchances24 I'm glad it's the only draft in the cabin and easily taken care of.

@just4him I got a thin triple folded blanket &
put it in front of the old door & shoved the
new door against it & that done did the trick.

So am I cause it's 1 degree right now
& I have a draft coming from the old front door
we haven't changed out yet & that will be done
the very 1st chance we get (when it warms up)
but for now I will put a thick towel in front of it.

it's amazing how good we sealed this place up where the snow
on the cabin roof doesn't even melt like it use to.
