Darla Carpenter who is 61 years old and a resident of New Hampton Iowa is grateful that her husband bought for her a scratch off lottery ticket for Christmas that ended up winning a prize of $250,000 dollars before taxes. The winning lottery ticket that Darla's husband bought for her at a store is called Winter Winnings which made both Darla and her husband very happy since Darla will use her lottery winnings to save her retirement in a few years. Darla and her husband claim that winning the lottery was the best Christmas present she and her husband were given since the odds of winning a huge lottery prize from a single scratch off lottery ticket is against the odds. I see they still issue prize winners with cheques there, which makes for a nice photo shot, but here cheques are now soon going, and the money has to be deposited straight into your bank account. "From June 2025, we will no longer issue cheques for prizes won on registered entries purchased in-store." The Lott, a lotto business here. The Government here is behind this too: "End-2028, cease acceptance of personal, commercial & government cheques. End-2030, cease acceptance of bank cheques. Close the cheques system." Australian Treasury. That lady was lucky, indeed.

@innertalks In the United States none of those would be accepted. The check would have to be issued by a bank attached to an actual bank account with money in it. If someone tried to pass off something as a check here like that, that would be fraud, and writing a bad check in certain amounts is a felony with stiff penalties even if it is done with a real one. Checks in the United States are financial documents that can only be issued by a bank and must have a bank routing number and account number on them. A check like the one in the picture would be no more passable than a $5 bill with a purple chicken on it. lol

At first I thought you were joking, but then I realized you were not. lol. Umm, that's a fake check just for the photo shoot. I don't know what kind of checkbooks you carried around back in the day, but mine was generally not the size of posters.

It won't give her much for retirement since after taxes she will likely only take home $150,000. BUT, at the same time, I always like to hear when people are going to do something useful with the money, and saving it for retirement is certainly useful.

Hopefully Darla will use her winnings to help others and waste it on trivial things.

@Deepizzaguy Screw helping others. I would always keep the money for myself. They can go get their own money. lol
