There we go

We are officially eating gold these days. $4.99 for a dozen eggs. $2.50 for a litter of sparkling water. $4.99 for a gallon of milk. And on we go.
I am glad that I am not a meat eater right now. How do families that eat meat do it? We also stopped eating stuff like canned cream of mushroom soup- I believe that costs a lot now, too.
I am grateful for hubby's state pension. He put in a lot of years helping folks with their welfare woes. He has earned his pension.
It's beet salad night so I best toddle off and put some beets on to boil. I'm kind of glad Butter Season is over- Christmas is behind us so I have less of an excuse to make sugar cookies. Last time I checked, butter also cost about 5 dollars per pound. Five dollars is the new one dollar?

I don't buy those goods often, and if I do, I get them because that's all George will eat. Until I read this, I didn't realize how much I was paying for George's favorite hotdogs at Walmart. I knew that Milk ranged from 3-5 dollars. Eggs, it's been a couple years. I think it's more about getting George to eat and drink over cost for me.

@RasmaSandra I'm not trying to be weird but do you feel fed and nourished when you eat those franks?

@kaylachan My husband will not touch hotdogs due to his questions on what is in them.

My vegetarian friend always said to not eat meat was kinder on the grocery bills. I try to find the deals - the markdowns - clearance. I am all over the place anyway, so I make a stop to various shops. We try to cook "mostly" from scratch. I found the "cheapest" eggs now are 3.49 (a couple weeks ago the lowest was 2.99). The cheapest gallon of milk seems to be 3.69. But this is not typical of most stores - it can be WAY higher.

Would your husband have been a social worker then? I’m not sure exactly who handles welfare things.
Yes butter and cream cheese get very costly at some points of the year.
I don’t eat meat but my husband and son do and my little one likes chicken nuggets but nothing else yet. My husband hunts but buys meat much more often. I wish he would cook up the things he kills more often. I’m usually the only one to make it or it doesn’t get eaten.
I do have a big pork tenderloin in the freezer I should make that into a meal for the men in the house soon. My son’s picky and my husband forgets about leftovers so most of it would wind up at my parents or sisters before it goes bad. I can’t stand wasting food.

@sallypup I know someone who worked for child protective services and saw so much that he had a mental breakdown himself and wound up with ulcers etc. Such a nice person it’s so sad that happened to him because now he can’t continue to help kids the way he did.

@shaggin My husband was a social worker at a welfare office for over 20 years. He was not in the child protective division. He said he could never do that job. I don't know how you manage emotionally in your life. I am mostly a vegetarian now. No way could I cook meat these days. I am grateful that my hubby and I have learned many years ago how to speak with each other, how to care for one another in a way that is good for the other. Please take care.
