How Many of You Are Expecting a Polar Vortex This Weekend?

Our local meteorologists are saying we're going to have a polar vortex tomorrow and Monday.
Today is rainy all day and around 40 degrees.
Tomorrow there's a 35% chance of snow and temps dropping to single digits.
I looked up online what a Polar Vortex is and it says, "The polar vortex is a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth’s poles. It ALWAYS exists near the poles, but weakens in summer and strengthens in winter. The term "vortex" refers to the counter-clockwise flow of air that helps keep the colder air near the Poles." (National Weather Service.com)
CBSNews.com says it's like a giant, swirling pool of super-cold air in the upper atmosphere over the North Pole and when it gets out of balance it makes the earth super frigidly cold.
So are you getting it where you live?

I'd be really worried if a Polar Vortex ever hit the Philippines! That would mean there is something seriously wrong with our planet!

@moffittjc that's is true. We are in middle near the equator, if it will have snow here, that will be crazy

@rakski Where I live is about 26 degrees north of the equator, so we're considered sub-tropical, but we do get snow and ice from time to time. It's not very often, so it's a big deal when we do.

The cold weather here doesn't really start until Monday, although we do have a wintery mix tomorrow.

The Polar Vortex is going to hit us here in north Florida on Tuesday/Wednesday. The rain is going to start moving in tonight (first round), and then again on Tuesday. As of this morning, they are still predicting snow for north Florida. I think where I live it will probably be a combination of sleet or freezing rain, but I know icy roads is going to be a huge issue for us. Us Floridians don't know how to drive on icy roads!

I just checked our weather online now.
Tonight the cold is coming here.
Today it is wet and soggy, not at all what January in Canada should be like.
Someone said that very thing to me at the grocery store this morning.
We used to have winters with 'polar vortex' temperatures, and we thought nothing of it, we could enjoy ice fishing, outdoor skating and skiing, but now with global warming, we call what was normal a polar vortex, it makes no sense.

I have heard we may be affected, but the worst of it in our state is anticipated to be in Chicago. We're farther south a few minutes from St. Louis. I have no idea what the impact might be. We can't get the local news anymore. I will have to look online. lol
