American as Apple Pie?

Apple pie has been associated with American patriotism for as long as we can remember. But actually, it originated in England before the United States ever existed. An apple pie recipe first appeared in a 14th-century English cookbook, The Forme of Cury. Apple trees were not native to North America. European settlers brought apple trees and recipe with them when they came to the American colonies. Apple pie was transformed into a national symbol in the 20th century through media, advertising and wartime propaganda. The picture is from the old farmer's almanac.
