Released during the Golden Age of Hollywood Gone With the Wind is still the highest-grossing film( when adjusted for inflation.). It earned an estimated $390 million globally during its first release. This was a groundbreaking amount for 1940. When adjusted for inflation the amount rises to over $3.4 billion and easily overshadows such block busters as Avatar or Titanic. It is believed that the film's success is because of the lavish production and the appeal of Margaret Mitchell's best-selling novel.
Have you seen it? Do any of you remember the skit Carol Burnett does with the green dress from the movie?

I have yet to see "Gone with The Wind" on television even though I have seen the parody sketches of the movie on comedy shows.

@celticeagle That is true since the movie was released when movies were good and not woke material.

@MarieCoyle ......I bet it was a good read. I don't like war or history books so I couldn't wade through. But the book is usually better than the movie in my estimation. It was such a long movie they couldn't put much more of the actual story into it.

I love the movie and have watched it numerous times. But you are so right—the book is way better than the movie. It really gets into the mind and heart of Scarlett herself, and you can understand why she does much of what she does.
Plus, the movie skips a lot. She had three children, not just Bonnie. The book also digs deeply into the time the war finally ended, the horrible struggles to feed everyone, and to face a new way of life they had no idea how to deal with.

It is so worth the read, seriously. I don't know anyone who has ever read it that didn't love it.

I have seen Carol Burnett go at it, I have the video I bought a long time ago but have not watched it in a long time, What is funny if that my large collection of videos was bought so that it could entertain and pass the time, Then along come Internet, DVDs, and YouTube. I have promised myself this year I will watch as many of my old videos as I can to see why I bought them and what I liked and I think I will review some of them on myLot because people always want to know what to watch, I wish I had a Mammy like Scarlett to take care of me,
