My friend's unique flower

If I had to design a flower that was unique and different, I couldn’t have come with something like what you see in the photo. It’s a bromeliad – Tillandsia guatemalensis – to be exact, and it’s blooming in my friend’s garden. It’s basically only two dimensional. I’ll put a photo of the side view in a comment. Isn’t it beautiful? Having said that, it also looks a bit bizarre.

Yes, it's pretty but I turned out to be allergic to the pollen from that plant. One of my nieces had one and asked me to babysit it for her while she was moving... I had it in my house for two weeks. It was shedding pollen and some got on me and burned my skin. (My skin blistered where the pollen touched me.) I wasn't happy about it.

@JudyEv I have a large clump of pampas grass at the outside corner of our front porch. I have to avoid it when it's dropping pollen. It can burn my skin, too, but I love that plant....

Oh, that's awful. Vince comes up in welts if he handles grevilleas.

It would be hard to come up with such a flower if you were trying to imagine it.

It really is, isn't it? And now it''s having more blue flowers along the ridge of pink.

So the 2 side flowers are actually part of the bright pink flower in the middle and they’re all growing as one? That’s amazingly beautiful. Ohh how I love the weirdness. I need to grow one of these. That center flower looks like a pink fan. Love it, Judy. Great shot

And now there are more side flowers coming up the 'fan'. The first two have dropped off now.

Here it is side on. Isn't that unusual? It's like it's been squashed.
