My goodness I actually sold something!

I started selling odds and ends on Ebay about 20 years ago, and it was a useful way of finding new homes for a few bits and pieces. Then when my parents died it was great to be able to pass on some things that I knew would be wanted by someone, if only I could find them – things that were too obscure to donate to a charity shop for example, but that I couldn’t bear to simply throw away. A steady stream of items was trickling out and I would list one or two when I had the time. But about a year ago something changed and I found things just weren’t selling any more, or even getting any views at all. I had a couple of items on there and they were relisted over and over for months and months, each time receiving ‘0 views, 0 views’. It was very disheartening because I just didn’t know where else to sell these sort of things. Finally, last week, I managed to sell my parents’ old Teasmade. At last! The first sale since April last year! I was sure someone somewhere must want it. I already have one that I kept for sentimental reasons, even though I never use an alarm clock and don’t even drink tea! So now I’m hoping perhaps the winds of change have starting to blow and maybe I can sell a few more things. Have just listed a couple, so fingers crossed! Have you sold anything lately? That's a long wait, almost an year to wait for this first sale after a break. Quite natural to feel happy and excited. I have never tried selling anything on eBay or any other online sites. I heard few more stories of sales not going well on eBay. Hopefully, this will get better.

I have been selling things on Ebay for 20 years and not had a bad experience so far, in fact had some lovely comments from buyers. But maybe that's because I'm selling obscure things and not trying to flog the latest tech.

I am glad. I only sold a couple of items on ebay, but I was satisfied with the prices. It always seems like such a hassle though..I prefer selling locally on Facebook sites, or Offer up which is a selling app.

I hope you can get buyers again. We haven't sold anything in several years... But we haven't tried to sell anything, either. We have a lot of stuff out in the garage that could be sold but neither one of us feel like listing anything. Eventually, I'm sure we'll just end up taking stuff to the local thrift store and let them sell it on. (They use the money earned from donations to buy food and give it to the homeless shelter in Springfield, the closest shelter to our city.) At least it goes to something that helps the local area

@Fleura When we donate to a charity shop, we don't get anything from it. If they throw things out after a donation to them, at least we tried to help out.

@DaddyEvil Same here. But I want to see things re-used so it irks me when good things donated to a charity shop are just put out for the bin men to take away.

I'm happy to donate things to charity shops if I think I can sell them but often they will throw things out if they are not obviously going to find a buyer fast.

I sold a heap of things on Ebay over the years but postage is horrendous nowadays and hard to calculate beforehand. Our district has a Buy and Sell FB page which is more convenient.

I know a lot of people use FB local groups to sell things, but (apart from the fact I have never joined FB) for some things you know only a few people in the country could possibly want it so I need a larger pool of buyers!

@Fleura That's all true. There are two other sites for buying and selling that are Australia-wide but you still have to sort out the postage.

i'm glad you sold it. i was selling things on our local site but as you pointed it out, things are not going good. i feel people want everything free or under so cheap price, which is absurd.

I've never had much luck selling stuff. How exactly does a "Teasmade" work?

Well, good for you, I would be happy if I could sell most of my jewelry not real but nice anyway however I have no idea about prices, no way to package anything, and no way to get to the post office so that is all out,
