Good afternoon everyone. George and I are watching the swearing in of our 47th President, Trump. I've never watched something like this before, but when I turned on Disney Plus, there it was, and George suggested we watch it. I loved President Trum's address. And, George seems to like it, too. Qw support President Trump and believe in what he stands for. That's why I'm on posting this so late.

One thing disturbs me a great deal: He did not put his hand on the Bible. I loved the ceremony, but that one thing put a tiny chip in my armor.

Well, I wouldn't know if he did or didn't. I couldn't see anything in great detail. But, as far as I'm concerned as long as he takes the oath, it shouldn't matter. Freedom of religion is one of our founding princeples. He shouldn't have to, as long as he does the rest. Did he raise his right hand?

@NJChicaa is there some unwritten rule that he HAD to touch it. Because I sure as hell am not religious, and I wouldn't touch it. Hell, holding my right hand up long enough to do that, is hard enough.

It is well-known that Trump isn't religious. He held the freaking bible upside down for a photo opp. He cannot name a single verse from it. His failure to touch it was the LEAST disturbing about the whole thing.

@kaylachan So we're back to Biden. I hope those hanging onto their welfare checks and food stamps as a way to survive will continue to be able to.

Me unable to spell. I am willing to admit. If you know what happened two hours ago, you know what I'm trying to say. I just don't know how to spell it.

I thought it was a play on words. You know, "ignore" and a variation of inauguration.

What exactly is an ignorgeration? Is it anything like an inauguration? As for the inauguration, I watched Trump's speech and have been catching snippets of other parts. I also watched Trump signing executive orders. We have definitely turned a page.

They showed that on T.V. the announcer said the scraping of the pen was part of the hiring process for the cabinet or something.

I haven’t watched the last couple of Inauguration ceremonies. I used to watch them, and I guess I got out of the habit.

I couldn't/wouldn't watch it--instead, I was thinking about titles for poetry collections like: The Petals of Resistance, Living Inside Trajedy, I've Got the Post-Election I Hate Fascism Blues, etc

I'm from India and don't know much about the politics in in the USA. But I support right wing governments in every country. We have a right wing government in India; too.I was very happy when Trump won. But I have a question. Why in your country the defeated president is allowed to continue as the president for months?? In our country the defeated prime minister resigns just after the declaration of election results and the new prime minister is sworn in.

Because our voting process isn't that straightforward. When we vote for a president, we're actually voting for electors. Those electors get together in Janauary and basically cast their vote. That's what happens on Jan 6. And the sitting Vice president certifies the result. You also have to understand that voting is a long process because the U.S is so large. Anyone eligable to vote has the option to vote in-person at a polling place or mail-in. All those votes have to be counted and that can't begin until the vinal polling place closes on Election day. Typically results are counted in a matter of hours, but due to COVID for example, the 2020 election took days to be counted. Since 2000 congress has been trying to figure out a better system then the electoral college. but, we're not there yet. Mostly because our eleccted offical often act like children.
