Look at this photo… It looks so romantic and so intimate, right?? A sailor kisses a nurse. In fact, this photo has become iconic for all time... Then where is the scary thing?? This photo will be a romantic photo if the people kissing are two people who love each other.. Huh?? What do you mean by this, Sis E? Do they really love you? Hah hah???? Do you want to know what is behind this iconic photo?? OK, I'll tell you, This event occurred on VJ Day (Victory over Japan day) on August 14, 1945 in Times Square. Greta Zimmer Friedman, a 21-year-old girl, was working as a doctor's assistant at a dental clinic on Lexington Avenue when she heard people coming and going all morning saying that Japan had lost and rumors of the war ending. Because his place of work was not too far from Times Square, he wanted to walk there and see for himself. It just so happened that her boss was going to lunch so Greta asked permission to go to Time Square to see and confirm what people were saying. Then suddenly she was caught by a sailor and kissed. By someone he had never even seen in his life. If you are all careful, I think you can all see that the man is not at all gently grabbing Greta and you can also see how tightly he is gripping her entire arm and locking it around Greta's neck and nape. Greta explained that it was not her choice to be kissed and the man grabbed her and grabbed her neck to get the kiss. Can you imagine being kissed in the middle of a crowd by someone we don't know at all who grabbed our hand and kissed us straight away?? Although Greta said she understood that the sailor was too happy because he didn't have to return to the Pacific sea to fight again and the kiss was an outpouring of his joy. Still, Greta was not asked for consent at all for the kiss, so for me this photo is still scary because of simple sexual harassment that was unwanted but had to be accepted just because Greta was a woman and had bad luck because she was in the kisser's path.
