Homeschooling

After 4 months of my son being physically and verbally abused by other kids and then a teacher choosing to make inappropriate comments to my son, I decided the best decision was to homeschool him. I feel like a fish out of water, but I am trying to give it my best. I have started adding my journey to my blog in case it helps someone else if they are trying to decide or if they make the decision but feeling alone in it.
Do you homeschool or would you give it a try?

Personally I don't think I would. Children need a more structured environment the I could provide aline. And they need to learn to socialize.

@Meggan As long as he's getting all his needs met.

My sister homeschools her three children. She’s got a 5, 9, and 13 year old. The nine year old is special needs, and there really isn’t a learning facility suitable to teach him after he graduated preschool. So she just teaches them all from home. They started taking the kids on academic trips since they could make their own learning schedule. They’ve all really liked that.

Thank you! I am praying it works out for the best. I am disappointed in all the areas he is behind in.

Very few parents can homeschool competently on their own. You need to look for blogs, online communities, and all sorts of resources. I'd love to see a study on how well homeschooled students do in college/university/military environments.
I am a teacher with over 2 decades of experience. I've taken MANY courses obviously but a lot in science. I would NEVER attempt to teach a child chemistry or physics despite the fact that I've taken many courses in it let alone trying to do literature, history, math, etc. Again I passed Algebra2/Trig, Pre-Calculus, and then Calculus in college. I wouldn't ever presume that I could properly teach it.
I know a small handful of students/parents who did well with homeschooling but from what I have personally seen it is either a failure and they send their kids back to school or they just lower the bar to basically breathing and say their kids are geniuses.

That has always been my biggest fear. He had some really great teachers that cared and I wished every year would have been like that. Lately they seem to be using the software to teach at school and not much instructional time. I will be monitoring his progress very closely and the moment I think he isn't doing as good as he should I will put him back in school. This year there is no way I can make him go to school where the teacher is SH him and no punishment happens to her. He is very smart in some subjects and I hope he can keep progressing like he should.
