Prunes Get Such a Bad Rep

When I was in high school and in cooking clas I recall my second choice of a recipe to be down in the class.(I had done glorified rice for my first). I choice a brownie recipe. Who doesn't like brownies, right? But mine had a secret ingredient. Few of the kids would try my cooked brownies when they heard they had prunes in them. Not a lot but enough. The chopped prunes made the flavor of the brownies richer.
This left more for me.
Prunes half iron in them and are a good source of fiber. I eat 2-3 every few days and never have an issue. Poor prunes. They get such a bad rep.

I love plums but don't eat prunes. I bet the brownies were interesting.

I like prunes, too... always start my day with them. Smart to put them in your brownies (as you said, more for you). At least you didn't put Exlax icing on them.

That's weird. I see them all the time online.

When I was growing up prunes were always sort of sn*ggered at because they were considered a remedy for constipation. Nevertheless when a 'health food' shop opened in our local town my friend and I used to go there after school while we waited for the bus, we would often argue about prunes vs. apricots (at that time I favoured apricots). Nowadays I prefer prunes, in fact I absolutely love them! It's almost an addiction; I have been known to eat a whole packet. And I think they do have something reminiscent of chocolate about them. Must try that brownie idea, do you have a recipe?
