When security works against you.

I've had an account on Facebook for years. I rarely get on it, but recently I started to use messanger. Well, I'd say again. Well, Everything was working fine and then suddenly, I was locked out of my facebook (and subsequently my messanger ) account. Due to reported "suspicius activity.
Now Facebook isn't known for being the most secure and a hacker can effortlessly broot force their way into someone's account. I have two-factor authicatation set up which is supposed to protect my account, but the problem is I set it up on an authencator app. Now I have that app on my phone, and I could easily use it, right? Well, no. You see Facebook isn't set up on any of the three athantocators, because it did not transfer devices. So.... I have no way to use my second factor to log in.
So I thought, fine. Great. I'd just update my 2FA to use a paskey that can be stored in my Apple account. Well, I go into my settings on Facebook, where I'm successfully logged in on my Macbook, and go to do that. And, Facebook says 'nope' you can't do that because this is a "new device" and you can do so once you've used this device for a while. So yeah.....their security works, when it feels like it.

@TheHorse I almost never use it. My friends are on other platforms.

@kaylachan I used to think it was a pretty cool thing. But I don't like being taken advantage of. I had no idea they would literally do away with customer service.

@kaylachan yes I like it on as well but trying to get in to accounts can be really difficult. Mine was the worst when I got a new phone. Nothing was letting me sign in it was sending all the sign it things to my old phone. Most things I was able to sign into but some I just gave up on like YouTube.

@shaggin I set up paskeys that can be stored in a cross-device password manager.

I'd rather have it then not. And while probably not ideal I need something that'll work cross device. I mean come on. Bad enough I'm forced back to using Edge on mac, I really want to be able to use my accounts as well.

They can be a pain. Use your MacBook for awhile and then change everything

I plan on it. Unless I say F it, take my photos off of there and get rid of it all. I don't use FB and the two people I do know in real life I have their personal numbers for, anyway.

I can turn into a real nurd. Basically I was complaining about the security measures basically locking me out of my account.
